Translate your credentials for U.S. licensing boards
Medical physicists in the U.S. need board certification from the American Board of Radiology or equivalent. Confirm your graduate degree and clinical training hours meet ABR eligibility before applying, as MyMichigan Health's Physics roles will expect a credentialing pathway in place.
Target openings tied to clinical equipment cycles
Health systems like MyMichigan Health often hire physicists when installing or upgrading linear accelerators, CT systems, or MRI suites. Searching for openings alongside capital equipment announcements or new facility expansions increases your odds of finding an active role.
Clarify TN eligibility before applying if Canadian or Mexican
The TN visa covers Physicists explicitly under USMCA for Canadian and Mexican nationals, with no lottery and no cap. It's faster to obtain than an H-1B and MyMichigan Health sponsors it, so flag your citizenship upfront when reaching out to recruiters.
Use Migrate Mate to surface active Physics openings
Browsing general job boards makes it hard to filter for roles where sponsorship is confirmed. Migrate Mate surfaces Physics positions at employers with a documented sponsorship history, so you're applying where your visa situation won't disqualify you at the screening stage.
Ask HR to confirm the LCA wage tier at offer stage
Before signing an offer, ask the recruiter whether the H-1B Labor Condition Application will be filed at a Level I or Level II prevailing wage. DOL wage levels affect your salary floor and knowing this early helps you negotiate with accurate information.
Request OPT cap-gap protection if your H-1B is pending
If you're on F-1 OPT when MyMichigan Health files your H-1B petition, cap-gap rules extend your work authorization through September 30. Confirm with USCIS case status that your I-797 receipt is in hand before your OPT expiration date so your employment authorization stays continuous.

Find Physics at MyMichigan Health JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does MyMichigan Health sponsor H-1B visas for Physicists?
Yes, MyMichigan Health sponsors H-1B visas for Physics roles. Healthcare employers in clinical and research physics functions routinely use the H-1B because the specialty occupation requirement is straightforwardly met by a master's or doctoral degree in physics or a related field. MyMichigan Health has an established pattern of filing H-1B petitions for qualified candidates in this function.
How do I apply for Physics jobs at MyMichigan Health?
Applications go through MyMichigan Health's careers portal, where Physics openings are listed under clinical or research departments. Before applying, confirm your board certification status or eligibility timeline, since most clinical roles expect ABR candidacy or certification. Migrate Mate also aggregates active Physics openings at MyMichigan Health and filters by visa sponsorship, which helps you identify the right roles faster.
Which visa types does MyMichigan Health use for Physics roles?
MyMichigan Health sponsors H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, and F-1 CPT for Physics positions. H-1B is the most common long-term path for degree-holding physicists. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals and covers Physicists as a named occupation under USMCA. OPT and CPT apply to F-1 students completing clinical or research rotations that qualify under their program.
What qualifications does MyMichigan Health expect for Physics roles?
Most Physics positions at MyMichigan Health require at minimum a master's degree in medical physics, health physics, or a closely related field, with doctoral degrees preferred for senior clinical or research roles. ABR board eligibility or certification is a common requirement for clinical medical physicist positions. Hands-on experience with treatment planning systems, radiation dosimetry, or imaging QA is expected at the mid-level and above.
How long does the sponsorship process take for a Physics hire at MyMichigan Health?
For H-1B, the employer files the Labor Condition Application with DOL first, which typically takes seven business days, then submits Form I-129 to USCIS. Standard processing runs three to six months. If you're subject to the annual H-1B cap, the petition must be filed in April for an October 1 start date. TN processing is significantly faster and can often be resolved at a port of entry on the day of travel.
