The Clerkship Site Director (Site Director) is primarily responsible for the management and day-to-day smooth delivery of the educational program of their respective clerkship in their clinical discipline at hospital sites affiliated with New York Medical College (NYMC or "College") School of Medicine (SOM). The overarching goal of the Site Director is to assist the Office of Undergraduate Medical Education in delivering a high-quality educational program.
Responsibilities
Student Education, Feedback, Assessment and Remediation Responsibilities:
- Participate in clerkship didactic programs as a visible teacher.
- Coordinate and deliver student specific educational sessions for the site that are in line with the overall clerkship curriculum.
- Collect and ensure the quality of faculty and resident evaluations of the students.
- Collect and provide (as relevant) mid-rotation feedback of the students from faculty and housestaff prior to their mid-clerkship feedback session.
- Ensure that all students receive formal mid-rotation feedback sessions, document completion, and provide documentation to the Clerkship Director.
- Ensure that all preceptor evaluations are received within one (1) week of student completion of the rotation, contacting late preceptors to ensure compliance.
- Forward electronic copies of all preceptor evaluations to the clerkship director or designate.
- Create a summative narrative evaluation of students after the completion of each clerkship cycle within three (3) weeks of the end of the clerkship.
- Review student patient logs to ensure an appropriate breadth of patients during their rotation.
- Ensure that all student assignments are graded in a timely fashion.
- Ensure that all students are observed and evaluated performing required history and physicals and/or procedures as designated in the objectives and competencies of the clerkship.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Serve as a point person for students regarding site specific issues (e.g. difficulties with house staff or attendings, schedule issues, etc.).
- Continually review the quality of the site curriculum and structure.
- Work with the Clerkship Director to ensure comparability across clerkship sites.
- Work with the Program Director and Clerkship Director on delivering and maintaining a “resident as teacher” curriculum at the site.
- Ensure proper education of the housestaff and faculty on clerkship educational goals and objectives, grading rubric, and college policies that pertain to the clerkship.
- Attend bi-yearly Site Director meeting as organized by the Clerkship Director.
- Ensure that all teaching faculty have NYMC faculty appointments.
- Inform the Clerkship Director of the gain or loss of faculty on a bi-yearly basis.
- Monitor that your clerkship site has the following available for student rotations; secure storage space/lockers, call rooms, study area, library and computer access.
- Maintain a positive learning environment for students.

Education/Experience:
- Terminal degree: M.D., D.O. required with experience and demonstrated interest in UME.

- Experience in faculty development, educational research, and academic scholarship preferred.
Licenses or certifications: NYS license and Board Certification in field of specialization, as appropriate.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite; virtual meeting platforms (Zoom, etc.); other software and platforms as directed/requested by the Office of UME.
