Align your credentials with NYU's project types
NYU manages complex urban construction across its Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Abu Dhabi campuses. Frame your experience around institutional or higher-education projects, not residential work. Familiarity with occupied-building construction protocols and compliance-heavy environments strengthens your application.
Target NYU's Facilities and Construction division directly
NYU posts construction openings through both its central HR portal and its Facilities Management unit. Searching only the main careers page misses roles managed at the department level. Browse open Construction roles at NYU on Migrate Mate to surface positions across both channels.
Secure your credential evaluations before the offer stage
If your engineering or construction degree is from outside the U.S., get a NACES-member credential evaluation completed before you receive an offer. NYU's HR team will need this for the H-1B petition, and delays here push back your USCIS filing window.
Understand the H-1B cap and NYU's exempt status
As a nonprofit university, NYU qualifies as a cap-exempt H-1B employer. That means your petition can be filed with USCIS at any time of year, without waiting for the annual April lottery. This significantly shortens your timeline from offer to work authorization.
Negotiate your start date around USCIS processing
Standard USCIS processing for cap-exempt petitions takes two to four months. If you need to start sooner, your offer letter should request premium processing from NYU, which targets a 15-business-day adjudication. Build this into your offer negotiation, not after signing.

Find Construction at New York University JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does New York University sponsor H-1B visas for Construction roles?
Yes, NYU sponsors H-1B visas for Construction positions where the role meets USCIS specialty occupation requirements, typically roles requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field such as civil engineering, construction management, or architecture. As a nonprofit university, NYU is cap-exempt, meaning petitions can be filed year-round without entering the annual lottery.
How do I apply for Construction jobs at New York University?
Applications go through NYU's official careers portal, where Construction and Facilities roles are posted under departments like Campus Construction, Facilities Management, and Capital Projects. Tailor your resume to institutional or large-scale urban construction experience. If you need visa sponsorship, state that clearly in your application or cover letter so recruiters can flag the role for the appropriate HR process.
Which visa types does NYU commonly use for Construction positions?
NYU has sponsored H-1B, E-3, H-1B1, TN, and J-1 visas for workers in Construction-related roles, as well as F-1 OPT and CPT for recent graduates. The right category depends on your nationality and the specific role. Australians are well-positioned for the E-3, Canadians and Mexicans for TN, and most others for H-1B.
What qualifications does NYU typically expect for Construction roles?
NYU's Construction positions generally require a degree in civil engineering, construction management, architecture, or a closely related field, along with demonstrated project experience in complex or occupied-building environments. Senior roles often require licensure such as a PE or PMP certification. For visa sponsorship, your degree must align directly with the job duties to satisfy USCIS specialty occupation standards.
How do I find and track Construction job openings at NYU that offer visa sponsorship?
Construction roles with sponsorship eligibility can be hard to identify from job postings alone since not every listing specifies immigration support. Use Migrate Mate to browse verified Construction openings at NYU filtered by visa type, so you're only spending time on roles where sponsorship is a confirmed possibility rather than guessing from the job description.
