Align your credentials to NYU's administrative structure
NYU's Business Operations roles sit across schools, departments, and central administration. Tailor your resume to reflect experience in budget management, procurement, or institutional compliance, since university operations roles reward familiarity with nonprofit or higher education environments.
Target department-level postings not just central HR
NYU's Stern School, Tandon, and other academic units post Business Operations roles independently. Searching only NYU's central careers page misses openings. Monitor individual school job boards and set up alerts to catch postings before they close.
Browse open NYU Business Operations roles on Migrate Mate
NYU posts Business Operations positions across multiple portals. Use Migrate Mate to filter for NYU roles that explicitly support visa sponsorship, so you're applying to positions where the hiring pathway is already confirmed rather than guessing.
Confirm sponsorship scope during early screening calls
Universities often sponsor H-1B but handle cap-exempt filings differently from cap-subject ones. Ask your recruiter early whether NYU will file a cap-subject or cap-exempt petition, since NYU's status as a nonprofit educational institution may allow year-round H-1B filing outside the April lottery.
File your Labor Condition Application well before your start date
For H-1B and E-3 sponsorship, NYU's HR team must file an LCA with the DOL before submitting the visa petition to USCIS. Build at least 60 days of buffer between your intended start date and your offer acceptance, since LCA certification alone can take one to two weeks.
Prepare your degree equivalency documentation early
NYU's Business Operations roles frequently require a bachelor's degree in a business-related field. If your degree is from outside the U.S., get a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved evaluator before applying, since USCIS requires this for H-1B specialty occupation petitions.

Find Business Operations at New York University JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does New York University sponsor H-1B visas for Business Operations?
Yes, NYU sponsors H-1B visas for Business Operations roles that qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant field. As a nonprofit educational institution, NYU is cap-exempt, meaning it can file H-1B petitions year-round rather than only during the April lottery window. This significantly reduces timeline uncertainty for candidates.
How do I apply for Business Operations jobs at New York University?
Applications go through NYU's central careers portal at nyu.edu/jobs, but individual schools and departments also post roles independently. Review each posting carefully for sponsorship language, then tailor your application to the specific operational function. Migrate Mate can help you identify active NYU Business Operations postings that are open to visa sponsorship before you apply.
Which visa types does NYU commonly use for Business Operations hires?
NYU sponsors H-1B visas most commonly for Business Operations professionals, along with H-1B1 for Chilean and Singaporean nationals, E-3 for Australian citizens, and TN status for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying business categories. F-1 OPT and CPT are also supported for students transitioning into NYU staff roles, and J-1 exchange visitor status is used in specific programs.
What qualifications does NYU expect for Business Operations roles?
Most Business Operations positions at NYU require a bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, accounting, or a related field, with relevant experience in budget oversight, procurement, or operational planning. Roles in higher education administration often prioritize candidates familiar with nonprofit financial structures, grant compliance, or institutional governance. Advanced degrees can strengthen candidacy for senior-level positions.
How do I plan my timeline if I need visa sponsorship from NYU?
Because NYU is cap-exempt for H-1B, you're not constrained to the April lottery. However, the LCA certification with DOL and the USCIS I-129 petition process still take time. Standard processing runs two to three months; premium processing through USCIS shortens adjudication to 15 business days. Plan for at least 90 days between offer acceptance and your intended start date to avoid gaps.
