Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Teaching Jobs at Onondaga Community College Jobs
Tailor your credentials to community college standards
Community colleges like OCC typically require a master's degree in your teaching discipline rather than a doctorate. Confirm your transcripts show the specific field of study matching the role, not just a related area, before applying.
Target adjunct roles to build your candidacy
OCC frequently hires adjunct faculty before converting candidates to full-time positions. Starting as an adjunct builds your internal profile and can strengthen a future H-1B petition by documenting continuous, role-specific teaching experience at the institution.
Confirm your department's sponsorship history early
Not every academic department at OCC sponsors H-1B visas at the same rate. During early conversations with hiring managers or HR, ask directly whether the specific department has sponsored before and whether they're prepared to initiate a petition.
Understand the H-1B cap-exempt advantage for OCC
As a nonprofit educational institution, OCC qualifies as a cap-exempt H-1B employer, meaning your petition bypasses the annual lottery. USCIS accepts cap-exempt petitions year-round, so your start date isn't tied to the October 1 fiscal year cycle.
Align your offer timeline with USCIS processing windows
Once OCC's HR confirms sponsorship intent, the DOL Labor Condition Application must be certified before USCIS can receive your I-129 petition. Build at least two to three months of lead time between your offer acceptance and your intended start date.
Browse OCC Teaching openings through Migrate Mate
Filtering for sponsorship-confirmed Teaching roles saves time when targeting a specific institution. Use Migrate Mate to identify open Teaching positions at OCC and verify which roles are actively associated with H-1B sponsorship before submitting your application.

Does Onondaga Community College sponsor H-1B visas for Teachings?
Yes, Onondaga Community College has sponsored H-1B visas for Teaching roles. As a nonprofit educational institution, OCC qualifies as a cap-exempt H-1B employer, which means sponsored faculty avoid the annual lottery and petitions can be filed at any point during the year. Sponsorship decisions are made at the departmental level, so confirming directly with HR for your specific role is the most reliable step.
How do I apply for Teaching jobs at Onondaga Community College?
Applications for Teaching positions at OCC are submitted through the college's official HR portal. Most full-time faculty roles require a completed application, a current CV, transcripts, and a cover letter addressing your teaching philosophy. For roles where H-1B sponsorship is a factor, you can also browse verified openings and filter by sponsorship status through Migrate Mate before initiating the formal application.
Which visa types are commonly used for Teaching roles at Onondaga Community College?
The H-1B is the primary visa used for full-time Teaching roles at OCC, supported by the college's cap-exempt status as a nonprofit educational institution. J-1 visas are also used for visiting faculty or exchange scholar positions, though those are typically temporary and program-specific. If you're transitioning from F-1 OPT, your employer would need to file an H-1B petition before your OPT authorization expires.
What qualifications are expected for Teaching positions at Onondaga Community College?
Most full-time Teaching roles at OCC require a master's degree in the relevant discipline. Some technical and career-focused programs accept significant professional experience alongside a bachelor's degree, but academic departments in the liberal arts, sciences, and humanities generally expect graduate-level credentials. Prior community college teaching experience or demonstrated instructional effectiveness strengthens your application, particularly if you're also requesting H-1B sponsorship.
How long does the H-1B sponsorship process take for OCC Teaching roles?
Because OCC is cap-exempt, your petition doesn't need to wait for an annual filing window. After your offer is confirmed, OCC's HR or legal counsel files a Labor Condition Application with the DOL, which typically takes one to two weeks if unchallenged. USCIS standard processing for the I-129 petition then takes two to four months, though premium processing can reduce that to roughly 15 business days.
