About The Role
As a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) at PubMatic, you will sit at the intersection of software engineering and applied AI, embedded directly within GTM and operational teams to ship production-grade AI workflows. You will be delivering working agents, integrations, and automation that measurably improve productivity and decision-making inside real business processes. Operating in a small pod model, you will own the full technical lifecycle: discovery, integration design, build, and production rollout. Initial focus areas include GTM functions where AI can automate analysis, generate insights, and streamline day-to-day operations. This is a hybrid role based in New York, with proximity to PubMatic’s GTM teams. On-site collaboration is expected for this role. Travel to Redwood City and other PubMatic locations may be required. Your goal will be to automate entire job workflows, not just small tasks. For example, you would enable teams to 10X the amount of workload they can handle (such as 10X the number of deals managed per person, or 10X the number of DSP integrations per person) by building end-to-end agents that manage entire workflows or processes today allowing people to focus on customer interaction and exception handling. The definition of success for this role is workload ÷ team size.
Technical Delivery & Production Deployment
- Own end-to-end technical delivery across multiple AI workflow deployments, from first prototype to stable production rollout.
- Understand and follow PubMatic Agentic development guidelines, Guardrails, Evals, to Build and deploy AI agents, workflow automation, and integration pipelines directly into operational systems used by PubMatic business teams.
- Develop MCP servers, sub-agents, retrieval pipelines, structured extraction templates, and supporting infrastructure tailored to each use case.
- Resolve data readiness, permissions, and system integration blockers to ensure solutions are production-ready rather than experimental.
- Ensure all deployed solutions meet reliability, latency, and observability requirements appropriate for enterprise operations.
Use-Case Discovery & Embedded Collaboration
- Embed closely with functional leaders across GTM teams to identify and scope high-impact AI opportunities.
- Define success criteria and measurable outcomes for each workflow in collaboration with business stakeholders.
- Translate business requirements into technical designs, sequencing delivery to protect timelines and manage scope trade-offs.
- Guide functional teams through AI adoption, building trust, reducing friction, and ensuring deployed solutions are actively used.
Platform & Repeatability Contributions
- Codify deployment patterns, connector templates, evaluation frameworks, and observability standards into reusable “golden path” playbooks.
- Feed field learnings back to PubMatic’s internal AI platform teams to accelerate the broader AgenticOS buildout.
- Contribute to evaluation design, precision/recall benchmarks, human review queues, audit trails, for each deployed workflow.
- Maintain strong working knowledge of LLM capabilities, agent development frameworks, and the evolving enterprise AI tooling landscape.
Who You Are
We are looking for engineers who think in terms of workflow multipliers, not feature additions. Your mandate is to automate entire job workflows, enabling teams to handle 10X the volume of deals, integrations, launches, and tickets without adding headcount. The definition of success for this role is workload ÷ team size.
Required
- 2+ years of software engineering or technical deployment experience that includes direct customer-facing or embedded delivery work.
- Hands-on experience with modern AI tooling including Claude, ChatGPT API, Notion AI, or comparable agent-development frameworks.
- Production experience with LLMs: prompt engineering, agent development, retrieval-augmented generation, evaluation frameworks, and deployment at scale.
- Strong programming proficiency in Python.
- Demonstrated ability to ship production-grade integrations in fast-moving or ambiguous environments.
- Experience building integrations with enterprise platforms such as Salesforce, Jira, or comparable CRM and workflow systems.
- High agency and sound judgment under ambiguity: ability to scope work, sequence delivery, remove blockers, and protect timelines independently. You must be driven and a self-starter.
- Strong communication skills: able to conduct discovery with business stakeholders, convey technical trade-offs clearly, and maintain alignment across engineering and functional teams.
Preferred
- Experience working in an FDE, professional services, or embedded consulting capacity at an AI company, technology vendor, or consulting firm.
- Background in deploying AI workflows into commercial functions such as sales, customer success, revenue operations, or trading desks.
- Experience with evaluation-driven development: designing precision/recall benchmarks, building human review queues, and establishing audit trails for AI outputs.
- Prior work at a company with a recognized FDE model (Palantir, OpenAI, Anthropic, Salesforce, or similar) is a strong plus.

Align your background with RTB infrastructure
PubMatic's engineering roles center on real-time bidding systems, low-latency data pipelines, and ad exchange platforms. Framing your resume around distributed systems, high-throughput APIs, or programmatic advertising tech will resonate with their hiring teams.
Verify E-Verify enrollment before applying
Federal contractors and programmatic ad tech firms operating at scale are required to use E-Verify. Confirming PubMatic's enrollment status through the E-Verify employer search means you can approach the sponsorship conversation knowing they have the compliance infrastructure in place.
Target roles before H-1B cap registration opens
USCIS opens H-1B cap registration in early March each year. Securing an offer in Q1 positions your employer to file your registration in time, since late-stage hiring after the registration window closes means waiting a full year for the next cap cycle.
Use Migrate Mate to surface open engineering roles
PubMatic posts engineering openings across backend, infrastructure, and data domains but availability shifts often. Use Migrate Mate to filter for current engineering openings at PubMatic that list visa sponsorship, so you're applying to live roles rather than outdated listings.
Understand how PERM affects long-term sponsorship
For Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3, your employer files a PERM labor certification with DOL before petitioning USCIS. Engineering hires at established ad tech companies typically go through this pathway, and the process can take one to three years from initiation.

Find Engineering at PubMatic JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does PubMatic sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
Yes, PubMatic sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying engineering roles. Their engineering function covers backend systems, data infrastructure, and platform development, all of which typically meet the H-1B specialty occupation standard. Sponsorship is handled through the standard cap-subject lottery process each spring, so timing your offer relative to the USCIS registration window matters.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at PubMatic?
Applications go through PubMatic's careers page, where roles are listed by function and location. Engineering openings span backend, infrastructure, and data domains. To find roles that explicitly indicate visa sponsorship availability, Migrate Mate filters PubMatic's engineering listings so you can identify the right positions before applying directly through PubMatic's official portal.
Which visa types does PubMatic commonly use for Engineering hires?
PubMatic sponsors H-1B visas for most engineering hires requiring cap-subject sponsorship. F-1 OPT and STEM OPT extensions cover early-career engineers still within their post-completion work authorization window. TN visas apply for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering roles. For long-term permanent residency, PubMatic has pursued EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process.
What qualifications does PubMatic expect from Engineering candidates?
PubMatic's engineering roles generally require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related technical field. Hands-on experience with distributed systems, real-time data processing, or programmatic advertising platforms is valued. Senior roles typically expect prior experience working with high-throughput, low-latency systems comparable to what powers digital ad exchanges at scale.
How do I time my Engineering job search around visa sponsorship deadlines?
The H-1B cap registration window opens in early March and closes within two weeks. To be included, you need an approved offer and a filed registration before that deadline. Beginning your engineering job search at PubMatic in the October-to-January window gives you enough runway to complete interviews, receive an offer, and work through pre-registration employer compliance steps before USCIS opens the cycle.
