Align Your Portfolio to Qualcomm's Voice
Qualcomm's Communications team handles technical storytelling for a highly specialized audience. Build a portfolio that shows experience translating complex technology into media-ready narratives. Work samples covering enterprise tech, consumer electronics, or semiconductor sectors carry the most weight.
Research Qualcomm's LCA Filings on DOL
Before applying, search the DOL's OFLC disclosure database for Qualcomm's Labor Condition Applications under Communications job titles. This tells you which office locations actively file for sponsorship and what prevailing wage levels apply to your target role.
Flag OPT STEM Extension Eligibility Early
Communications roles at a technology company like Qualcomm may qualify for the 24-month STEM OPT extension if your degree is in a STEM-designated field. Confirm your program's CIP code with your DSO before your initial OPT expires, since the extension must be filed at least 90 days in advance.
Target Roles That Specify Global or Technical PR
Use Migrate Mate to filter Qualcomm's open Communications listings by sponsorship type. Roles focused on global media relations or investor communications are most commonly associated with visa sponsorship, since they require specialized expertise that justifies the employer's filing investment.
Request Clarity on H-1B Cap Timing During Offer
If you're currently on OPT and receive an offer, ask Qualcomm's HR team whether they intend to file in the April H-1B lottery or pursue a cap-exempt route. Your answer determines whether you're working against a fixed USCIS lottery deadline or a more flexible timeline.
Prepare a Specialty Occupation Narrative in Advance
USCIS scrutinizes Communications roles for specialty occupation status more than technical roles. Document how your position requires a specific bachelor's degree, not just any degree. Job descriptions that tie communications strategy directly to Qualcomm's semiconductor or wireless product lines strengthen this argument significantly.

Find Communications at Qualcomm JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Qualcomm sponsor H-1B visas for Communications roles?
Yes, Qualcomm sponsors H-1B visas for Communications positions. The company participates in the annual H-1B cap lottery each April for candidates not already holding cap-exempt status. If you're on F-1 OPT when you receive an offer, Qualcomm's immigration team typically coordinates timing so your OPT covers the gap until your H-1B takes effect on October 1.
How do I apply for Communications jobs at Qualcomm?
Apply directly through Qualcomm's careers portal, where Communications roles appear under Corporate Functions or Marketing. Tailor your resume to reflect technical communications experience relevant to the semiconductor or wireless technology space. If you need to filter specifically for roles open to visa sponsorship, Migrate Mate surfaces Qualcomm's sponsorship-eligible Communications listings in one place.
Which visa types does Qualcomm commonly use for Communications professionals?
Qualcomm uses H-1B and H-1B1 visas most commonly for Communications hires requiring long-term sponsorship. F-1 OPT and CPT are used for students and recent graduates in early-career roles. TN visas are available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying Communications positions. For candidates on a path to permanent residence, Qualcomm also supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship.
What qualifications does Qualcomm expect for Communications roles?
Qualcomm typically expects a bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a closely related field. For H-1B purposes, the degree must be in a field directly relevant to the specific role, so generalist backgrounds are harder to support than specialized ones. Experience with technology media, analyst relations, or enterprise PR significantly strengthens your application and the specialty occupation argument USCIS requires.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Communications hire at Qualcomm?
Timeline depends on your current status. If Qualcomm files an H-1B in the April lottery, the earliest your status begins is October 1 of the same year, a roughly six-month gap from filing. Premium processing through USCIS reduces the petition adjudication window to 15 business days but does not affect the October 1 start date for cap-subject cases. F-1 OPT covers most candidates during this period.
