Get your credentials evaluated before applying
Rush and most U.S. hospital systems require international nursing credentials to be evaluated by a CGFNS-approved organization. Have your evaluation completed and your NCLEX-RN passed before you reach the offer stage so you don't slow down the sponsorship process.
Target units with known staffing pressure
Rush consistently posts openings across critical care, med-surg, and specialty units. Applying to high-demand floors strengthens your negotiating position when raising visa sponsorship, since hiring managers have more urgency to fill those seats.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open nursing roles
Searching broadly across job boards buries sponsorship-friendly postings in noise. Use Migrate Mate to filter Rush University Medical Center nursing openings specifically by visa type so you're only reviewing roles the employer is prepared to sponsor.
Ask HR directly about PERM timing for EB-3
Nurse roles at academic medical centers frequently qualify for EB-3 sponsorship, but PERM labor certification adds 12 to 24 months before an I-140 petition can be filed. Clarify at the offer stage whether Rush has an established EB-3 pipeline for your role.
Negotiate start date around H-1B cap deadlines
If you need H-1B sponsorship, Rush must file your petition in April for an October 1 start. Structure your offer negotiation around this window so your start date aligns with cap filing and avoids a gap in your authorized work status.

Find Nursing at Rush University Medical Center JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Rush University Medical Center sponsor H-1B visas for Nursings?
Yes, Rush University Medical Center sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying nursing roles. Registered nurse positions at academic medical centers generally meet the specialty occupation standard, though USCIS scrutiny on nursing petitions has increased in recent years. Having your NCLEX-RN, a completed credential evaluation, and a detailed employer support letter strengthens the petition considerably.
How do I apply for Nursing jobs at Rush University Medical Center?
Applications go through Rush's careers portal at careers.rush.edu, where you can filter by department and role type. Migrate Mate also aggregates Rush nursing openings and lets you filter by visa sponsorship type, which saves time if you're specifically targeting roles where sponsorship is available. Tailor your application to the unit's clinical specialty and include your credential evaluation status.
Which visa types are commonly used for nursing roles at Rush University Medical Center?
Rush sponsors H-1B visas for nurses who meet specialty occupation requirements, TN status for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying nursing classifications, and immigrant visa pathways including EB-3 for permanent residency. J-1 and F-1 OPT are also used, particularly for nurses completing clinical training programs or early-career roles tied to academic affiliation.
What qualifications does Rush University Medical Center expect for sponsored nursing roles?
Rush expects candidates to hold an active Illinois RN license or be eligible for licensure by endorsement, along with relevant clinical experience for the unit they're targeting. International nurses need a CGFNS credential evaluation and a passing NCLEX-RN score. Specialty certifications such as CCRN or CNOR significantly strengthen applications for critical care or procedural units.
How do I understand the visa sponsorship timeline for a nursing role at Rush?
Timeline depends heavily on visa type. TN status can be obtained at a port of entry with the right documentation in hand. H-1B requires petitioning in April with work authorization starting October 1, meaning your offer needs to be secured several months in advance. EB-3 permanent residency involves PERM labor certification followed by USCIS petition filing, typically spanning two years or more before a Green Card is issued.
