Verify Your NCLEX and Credential Equivalency Early
Rush requires active Illinois RN licensure before you start. If your nursing degree is from outside the U.S., get a credential evaluation through a NACES-approved agency and confirm your NCLEX eligibility with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation well before applying.
Target Units With Recurring Open Roles
Rush consistently posts Clinical Nurse openings across medical-surgical, ICU, and emergency departments. Applying to units with persistent vacancies signals higher urgency and increases the likelihood that a hiring manager is willing to move forward with sponsorship paperwork.
Ask Directly About Rush's Sponsorship Process
During interviews, ask which visa types Rush's HR team handles internally versus through outside immigration counsel. Knowing whether they manage H-1B or EB-3 filings in-house helps you gauge processing speed and avoid surprises after an offer is extended.
Prepare for PERM Labor Certification for Green Card Pathways
EB-3 is a common long-term route for nurses at academic medical centers like Rush. The PERM process requires DOL-approved recruitment steps before filing, so start this conversation with your hiring manager early and confirm Rush has initiated PERM for nursing roles before.

Does Rush University Medical Center sponsor H-1B visas for Clinical Nurses?
Yes, Rush University Medical Center does sponsor H-1B visas for Clinical Nurses. Because H-1B is subject to the annual cap and lottery, timing matters. You'll need an active Illinois RN license and a qualifying nursing degree that meets the specialty occupation standard. Coordination between Rush's HR team and immigration counsel typically begins after a formal offer is extended.
How do I apply for Clinical Nurse jobs at Rush University Medical Center?
Applications go through Rush's careers portal at rush.edu. You can also browse current Clinical Nurse openings filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate before applying, which helps you identify active roles aligned with your visa type. Tailor your application to the specific unit and clinical specialty listed in the job posting for the strongest consideration.
Which visa types does Rush University Medical Center commonly use for Clinical Nurses?
Rush sponsors H-1B, TN (for Canadian and Mexican nationals), F-1 OPT and CPT for nursing students completing clinical training, J-1 for exchange visitors, and employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3. EB-3 is the most common Green Card route for registered nurses at academic medical centers because it aligns with the skilled worker category.
What qualifications does Rush University Medical Center expect for Clinical Nurse roles?
Rush typically requires a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), active Illinois RN licensure, and BLS certification at minimum. Many specialty and critical care units require ACLS as well. For internationally educated nurses, a credential evaluation confirming degree equivalency and NCLEX passage are non-negotiable prerequisites before sponsorship discussions begin.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Clinical Nurse role at Rush?
Timeline depends on visa type. H-1B has a fixed October 1 start date tied to the March lottery cycle, meaning the process can take six to eight months from registration to start date. TN status for Canadian nurses can be obtained at the port of entry in days. EB-3 PERM-based Green Card sponsorship typically takes several years from initiation to approval.
