Verify Your Credentials Meet State Licensure
Indiana requires RN licensure through the Indiana State Board of Nursing before you can practice. If your nursing degree is from outside the U.S., get a credential evaluation from a CGFNS-approved body before applying so IU's HR isn't waiting on you.
Target Campus Health and IU Health Postings Separately
Indiana University posts Clinical Nurse roles across distinct units, including campus health services and its affiliated IU Health network. Search both career portals, since sponsorship eligibility and hiring timelines can differ between academic and clinical hospital settings.
Understand How H-1B Cap Timing Affects Your Start Date
H-1B cap filings open in April with an October 1 start date. If IU extends you an offer outside that window, ask whether they'll file for the next cap cycle or pursue cap-exempt status through their academic affiliation.
Ask HR Directly About EB-2 and EB-3 Pathways
Universities frequently support permanent residence sponsorship for nursing staff through PERM-based EB-3 or EB-2 filings. Ask IU's HR or immigration office during the offer stage whether they initiate PERM for Clinical Nurse roles and what the typical timeline looks like.
Browse Open Roles Using Migrate Mate
Filter for Clinical Nurse openings at Indiana University on Migrate Mate to see which roles are currently active and tagged for visa sponsorship, saving time you'd otherwise spend cross-referencing multiple university job boards.
Prepare for Occupational Visa Evidence Early
For H-1B eligibility in nursing, your employer must show the role requires a specialized bachelor's degree or higher. Gather your official transcripts, degree certificates, and any specialty certifications before IU initiates the I-129 petition with USCIS.

Find Clinical Nurse at Indiana University JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Indiana University sponsor H-1B visas for Clinical Nurses?
Yes, Indiana University sponsors H-1B visas for Clinical Nurse roles. As a large research university with academic and affiliated clinical operations, IU has an established immigration process and works with immigration counsel to file petitions with USCIS. Roles that require a specialized degree in nursing or a related clinical field are the strongest candidates for H-1B sponsorship.
How do I apply for Clinical Nurse jobs at Indiana University?
Applications go through Indiana University's official careers portal. Search for Clinical Nurse or RN-titled positions and filter by campus or unit. You can also browse open roles tagged for visa sponsorship on Migrate Mate before applying directly through IU's site. Make sure your Indiana RN license is active or in process before submitting, since most postings require state licensure.
Which visa types does Indiana University commonly use for Clinical Nurse roles?
H-1B is the most common nonimmigrant visa for Clinical Nurse positions at Indiana University, provided the role is structured as a specialty occupation requiring at minimum a bachelor's degree in nursing. For permanent residence, IU has supported EB-3 sponsorship through PERM labor certification filed with the DOL, which is the typical pathway for nursing staff moving toward a Green Card.
What qualifications does Indiana University expect for Clinical Nurse applicants?
Most Clinical Nurse postings require an Associate Degree in Nursing at minimum, though a Bachelor of Science in Nursing strengthens both your candidacy and your H-1B eligibility. Active Indiana RN licensure is required before your start date. Specialty certifications in areas like critical care, oncology, or pediatrics are valued in IU's clinical and campus health settings and can differentiate your application.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Clinical Nurse at Indiana University?
H-1B cap filings are submitted in April, with employment starting October 1 at the earliest. If you're already in the U.S. on a valid status, a change of status petition runs concurrently. PERM labor certification for EB-3 sponsorship typically takes 12 to 18 months through the DOL before an I-140 petition can be filed with USCIS. Coordinating your offer timeline with IU's HR early avoids gaps in work authorization.
