Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Business Operations Jobs at Indiana University Jobs
Align your credentials to higher education operations
Indiana University expects Business Operations candidates to understand institutional budgeting, compliance frameworks, and academic procurement cycles. Tailor your resume to reflect experience with fund accounting, grants administration, or public-sector financial controls rather than purely private-sector metrics.
Target department-level postings across IU campuses
IU operates across multiple campuses, including Bloomington and Indianapolis. Business Operations roles are posted at the departmental level, so searching centrally at careers.indiana.edu and filtering by administrative or operations categories surfaces openings that broad job boards frequently miss.
Identify roles tied to sponsored research or grant funding
Positions supporting sponsored research departments at IU often have dedicated HR and operations headcount. These units have established processes for H-1B filings through the university's international services office, making them more experienced with sponsorship timelines than smaller administrative departments.
Initiate the LCA conversation before accepting an offer
IU's Office of International Services files the Labor Condition Application with DOL before any H-1B petition reaches USCIS. Confirming the department has budget approval and a signed offer letter ready shortens the window between offer and filing, which matters if you're working against an OPT expiration.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Business Operations openings by sponsorship
Searching broadly for university operations jobs wastes time on employers who don't sponsor. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Indiana University Business Operations roles where H-1B or Green Card sponsorship is part of the hiring profile, so your applications go to roles that can actually move forward.
Prepare for PERM early if targeting permanent residence
IU has sponsored EB-2 and EB-3 pathways for Business Operations staff, but PERM requires a prevailing wage determination from DOL and a formal recruitment process. Raise your long-term immigration goals during the offer stage so the university's international services team can factor PERM timelines into your employment agreement.

Find Business Operations at Indiana University JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Indiana University sponsor H-1B visas for Business Operations?
Yes, Indiana University sponsors H-1B visas for Business Operations roles. The university processes petitions through its Office of International Services, which has experience handling specialty occupation filings for administrative and operations positions. Sponsorship is most common in roles tied to finance, compliance, procurement, and institutional planning, particularly in departments with established HR infrastructure.
How do I apply for Business Operations jobs at Indiana University?
Applications go through Indiana University's official careers portal at careers.indiana.edu. Search under administrative, finance, or operations categories and filter by campus if you have a location preference. You can also use Migrate Mate to browse Indiana University Business Operations openings filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility, which saves time if sponsorship is a requirement for your situation.
Which visa types does Indiana University use for Business Operations hires?
Indiana University primarily uses the H-1B visa for Business Operations professionals in specialty occupation roles requiring a relevant bachelor's degree or higher. For candidates on a longer-term path, the university has also supported employment-based Green Card sponsorship through the EB-2 and EB-3 categories, typically after a period of full-time employment and in consultation with the university's international services office.
What qualifications does Indiana University expect for Business Operations roles?
Most Business Operations positions at IU require a bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, accounting, or a closely related field. Roles in grants management or sponsored research operations may also value familiarity with federal compliance standards or fund accounting in a higher education or nonprofit context. Graduate degrees strengthen candidacy for senior analyst or manager-level positions where H-1B sponsorship is more routinely offered.
How do I time my application given H-1B cap and OPT deadlines?
If you're on OPT, the H-1B cap deadline falls on April 1 each year, with a USCIS registration window typically opening in March. To meet that deadline, you'd need a signed offer and a completed Labor Condition Application filed with DOL several weeks prior. Cap-exempt employers like Indiana University can file H-1B petitions outside the annual cap window, which removes the lottery constraint entirely and allows filing year-round.
