Build a portfolio around AI evaluation work
Scale AI's AI Product Engineer roles center on model evaluation, data pipelines, and RLHF tooling. Document projects where you've built or improved feedback systems for ML models. Concrete artifacts matter more than credentials alone when clearing technical screens.
Align your degree to specialty occupation standards
H-1B approval hinges on USCIS classifying your role as a specialty occupation. A degree in computer science, AI, or software engineering strengthens that case. A general business or unrelated degree can complicate the petition even at a willing sponsor.
Target Scale AI's enterprise and frontier divisions
Scale AI's AI Product Engineer openings cluster around its Generative AI and Federal divisions. Roles tied to specific product lines tend to move faster through headcount approvals, which directly affects how quickly an offer converts into a sponsorship filing.
Use Migrate Mate to surface open AI Product Engineer roles
Searching broadly across job boards misses roles where sponsorship is already built into the offer. Use Migrate Mate to filter Scale AI's AI Product Engineer openings by visa type so you're only applying where sponsorship is actively available.
Negotiate offer timing around H-1B cap deadlines
H-1B cap registrations open in March for an October 1 start. If you receive an offer outside that window, ask about cap-exempt pathways or whether Scale AI will hold the role for a future lottery cycle. This conversation is standard at companies with active sponsorship programs.
Request PERM initiation details before accepting
If long-term status matters to you, ask during offer negotiation whether Scale AI initiates PERM for this role category and at what tenure point. Some employers start PERM after one year; others wait longer. Getting clarity upfront avoids surprises after you've already joined.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Scale AI sponsor H-1B visas for AI Product Engineers?
Yes, Scale AI sponsors H-1B visas for AI Product Engineer roles. The company files both initial cap-subject petitions and transfers for candidates already holding H-1B status with another employer. If you're currently on OPT or another nonimmigrant status, Scale AI's recruiting team will typically discuss the H-1B path during the offer stage, not after.
Which visa types does Scale AI commonly use for AI Product Engineer roles?
Scale AI sponsors across several categories for this function, including H-1B, E-3 visa for Australian citizens, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals, F-1 OPT and CPT for students, and J-1 visa for exchange visitors. Candidates already on F-1 OPT can start immediately while an H-1B petition is prepared, which makes the transition relatively seamless for recent graduates.
How do I apply for AI Product Engineer jobs at Scale AI?
You can find open AI Product Engineer positions at Scale AI directly on the company's careers page or through Migrate Mate, which filters roles by visa sponsorship type so you can confirm sponsorship availability before applying. Scale AI's hiring process for this role typically includes a recruiter screen, a technical assessment focused on ML systems or product thinking, and multiple rounds of interviews with the product and engineering teams.
What qualifications does Scale AI expect for AI Product Engineer candidates?
Scale AI looks for candidates with a background in software engineering or machine learning, plus hands-on experience shipping AI-adjacent products. Familiarity with data annotation pipelines, model evaluation frameworks, or RLHF workflows is a strong differentiator. A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field is the baseline, and for H-1B sponsorship specifically, USCIS requires that the role qualify as a specialty occupation under that degree field.
How do I time my application if I'm on F-1 OPT and targeting Scale AI?
If your OPT is expiring within the next six to twelve months, apply early enough to allow time for onboarding and H-1B cap registration, which opens each March. STEM OPT extensions give you up to 24 additional months of work authorization, which provides a buffer if you miss a lottery cycle. Confirm with Scale AI's HR team early in the process that they're prepared to file the H-1B cap petition on your behalf before March.
