Role and Responsibilities of Theatre / English Teacher:
The Musical Theater Program Theater / English teacher will support the developmental and academic needs of diverse learners at the high school level and must have a passion and tireless commitment to ensuring that all students learn. We are looking for a dedicated Theater / ELA teacher who will work collaboratively within our dynamic and engaging team.
The teacher will develop and support curriculum, activities and instructional practices designed to introduce learners to the fundamentals of theatre and musical theatre, including acting, storytelling, and stagecraft. Students will use movement, voice, language, and ideas to explore roles, characters, relationships, and situations. The literacy skills that students develop through drama will assist them in learning to think, move, speak, and act confidently.
In addition, in the Mediaworks classes, the teacher will use ELA curriculum standards through the lens of music, theater and performance; making the work accessible and engaging for students and articulate to students the connections between reading, writing and speaking. Reading includes a range of stories, articles, poems, videos, etc. in fiction and nonfiction form. Writing includes creative and informational narrative, argument and literary analysis. The Mediaworks course also emphasizes all speaking and listening standards with performance based projects.
The teacher will plan culturally responsive lessons and units by utilizing data to inform instruction and differentiate lessons to meet the diverse learning needs of all students while providing continuous feedback for student growth. This position requires a high degree of flexibility, caring attitude and a culturally responsive equity-based mindset.
