Certify Your Credentials Before Applying
Shermco evaluates controls engineers on hands-on competency, not just degrees. If your electrical engineering credentials were earned outside the U.S., get them evaluated by a NACES-approved agency before your first interview so hiring managers can assess equivalency without delay.
Target Shermco Openings Tied to Medical Devices
Shermco posts Electrical Controls Engineer roles across multiple sectors, but Medical Devices positions often require familiarity with FDA-regulated environments. Filter your search specifically for those postings, since that background strengthens your technical fit and signals you understand the compliance expectations tied to the work.
Clarify TN Eligibility Before Negotiating an Offer
If you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship, TN status is available for electrical engineers and requires no USCIS petition. Raise this with Shermco's HR team before your offer is finalized so they can route your case through the faster TN pathway rather than defaulting to H-1B.
Understand the PERM Timeline for Permanent Residency
Shermco sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards, which require DOL PERM labor certification before USCIS filing. That process typically takes 12 to 18 months from initiation, so ask the recruiter whether PERM sponsorship is included in your offer package and when the company typically initiates it.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Verified Openings
Not all Electrical Controls Engineer postings at Shermco explicitly advertise visa sponsorship. Use Migrate Mate to browse and filter Shermco roles confirmed to support international candidates, so you're applying to positions where sponsorship is already on the table rather than discovering the gap after an offer.
Protect Your OPT Window During the Offer Stage
If you're on F-1 OPT, you have a 60-day grace period after your current employment ends. Before you resign or accept a Shermco offer, confirm that I-9 onboarding and your OPT work authorization dates align. A start date that falls outside your valid EAD window creates a compliance issue from day one.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Shermco Industries sponsor H-1B visas for Electrical Controls Engineers?
Shermco Industries does sponsor work visas for engineering roles, and Electrical Controls Engineers are among the positions where international candidates have received support. H-1B visa sponsorship is subject to the annual cap and lottery, so timing your application cycle correctly matters. Confirm sponsorship eligibility directly with Shermco's recruiting team during the offer stage.
Which visa types does Shermco Industries commonly use for Electrical Controls Engineer roles?
Shermco sponsors a range of visa types for Electrical Controls Engineers, including F-1 OPT and CPT for recent graduates, TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals, J-1 visa for exchange visitors, and EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card pathways for longer-term permanent residency. The right category depends on your citizenship, education, and how long you plan to stay in the U.S.
What qualifications does Shermco Industries expect for Electrical Controls Engineer positions?
Shermco typically expects a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field, along with hands-on experience with PLCs, HMIs, and control panel design. For Medical Devices-focused roles, familiarity with FDA-regulated manufacturing environments and safety standards like NFPA 70E is a practical advantage that differentiates candidates with similar technical backgrounds.
How do I apply for Electrical Controls Engineer jobs at Shermco Industries?
You can find and filter Electrical Controls Engineer openings at Shermco Industries through Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles confirmed to support visa sponsorship for international candidates. Once you identify a relevant posting, apply directly through Shermco's careers portal. Prepare to address your visa status early in the process since Shermco's HR team will need to confirm sponsorship availability for your specific category.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take when joining Shermco Industries as an Electrical Controls Engineer?
Timeline varies by visa type. TN status for Canadian and Mexican nationals can be obtained at the border or port of entry on your start date. H-1B requires USCIS approval and, if cap-subject, lottery selection in April for an October 1 start. EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship involves DOL PERM certification, which typically runs 12 to 18 months before USCIS filing begins.
