Tailor your resume to PLC and automation keywords
Eaton's Electrical Controls Engineer postings consistently emphasize PLC programming, HMI development, and industrial automation experience. Frame your resume around those specific skills so your application clears both the ATS and the hiring manager review.
Target Eaton's manufacturing and power management divisions
Eaton hires controls engineers across multiple business segments, but manufacturing plant roles are the most active. Search by division or location to find openings tied to production environments, where controls engineering headcount tends to be highest.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Eaton openings by visa type
Search Eaton's Electrical Controls Engineer roles on Migrate Mate and filter by the visa types you need, whether H-1B, TN, or OPT. This saves time and ensures you're only applying to positions where your sponsorship situation is already a known fit.
Align your degree field to the specialty occupation standard
USCIS requires H-1B roles to qualify as specialty occupations. For controls engineering, a degree in electrical engineering, controls engineering, or a closely related field strengthens the petition. A general engineering degree may invite additional scrutiny and should be documented carefully.
Understand the PERM timeline if you want a Green Card path
If Eaton opens a PERM-based Green Card process for your role, DOL labor certification can take a year or more. Plan your H-1B renewal windows accordingly so your authorized stay doesn't lapse while the PERM application is pending.

Find Electrical Controls Engineer at Eaton JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Eaton sponsor H-1B visas for Electrical Controls Engineers?
Yes, Eaton sponsors H-1B visas for Electrical Controls Engineers. The company has a consistent history of filing H-1B petitions for engineering roles across its manufacturing and power management segments. Sponsorship availability can vary by specific role and business unit, so confirming with your recruiter early in the process is the most reliable approach.
How do I apply for Electrical Controls Engineer jobs at Eaton?
Apply directly through Eaton's careers portal or find open roles filtered by visa type on Migrate Mate. When applying, tailor your resume to the specific job description, highlighting PLC platforms, control system design, and any relevant industry certifications. Following up with the recruiter to confirm sponsorship eligibility for that specific position is a practical step before investing heavily in the application.
Which visa types does Eaton typically use for Electrical Controls Engineers?
Eaton sponsors H-1B visas most commonly for Electrical Controls Engineers, along with TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals, and supports F-1 OPT and CPT for students and recent graduates. For candidates pursuing permanent residency, Eaton has used EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa pathways tied to the PERM labor certification process through the DOL.
What qualifications does Eaton expect for Electrical Controls Engineer roles?
Eaton's Electrical Controls Engineer postings typically require a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field, along with hands-on experience in PLC programming, HMI design, and industrial automation systems. Familiarity with platforms such as Allen-Bradley or Siemens is commonly expected. Candidates with experience in power distribution or manufacturing environments tend to align best with the roles Eaton fills most actively.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take once Eaton extends an offer?
For H-1B sponsorship, Eaton must first file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL, which typically takes one to two weeks when processed online. The H-1B petition is then filed with USCIS, with standard processing taking three to six months. Premium processing, which USCIS offers for an additional fee, reduces that window to 15 business days. TN visas for Canadians can be approved at the border on the same day as the application.
