Position Summary

The Opportunity: The Executive Director, San Juan Center & Road Scholar, is responsible for leadership, administration, and management of the Center’s operation and delivery of college programming e.g., Enrollment services, student advising, college transfer classes, Basic Education for Adults (BEdA), and High School completion, community education classes, throughout San Juan County. The Executive Director is responsible for administering and operating the Road Scholar Program in partnership with Elderhostel, Inc., and represents the college in community engagement activities throughout San Juan County.

This position is located at the San Juan Center in Friday Harbor on San Juan Island and reports to the Vice President of Academic Affairs. The San Juan Center is located at 221 Weber Way, Friday Harbor, WA 98250.

Duties and Responsibilities

Executive Director Responsibilities

• Administer all aspects of SVC’s San Juan Center administration, operation, and staffing;
• Collaborate with the Academic Affairs and Student Services divisions in the development and delivery of instructional and enrollment services activities throughout the county but primarily on San Juan Island, in alignment with SVC practices and systems;
• Recruit, select, and supervise faculty and all staff;
• Work with community partners (city, county, economic development council, county library, San Juan County/WSU Extension, etc.) to develop educational opportunities throughout the county;
• Serve as a member of the SVC Administrative Team and on college-wide committees;
• Work cooperatively and collaboratively with a wide variety of district-wide offices to meet the mission of the college;
• Oversee maintenance of SJC facility, grounds, and vehicle fleet;
• Provide Emergency Operations Management for San Juan Center;
• Host San Juan Center commencement as appropriate;
• Develop and administer budgets, including approximately a $1.25 million Road Scholar budget;
• Partner with the SVC Foundation and administration for public relations events and outreach in San Juan County;
• Attend SVC and/or Road Scholar conferences, events, and meetings as appropriate; travel as required;
• Advise students and prospective students on academic matters, including financial aid, degree requirements, and educational opportunities;
• Collaborate with San Juan County high schools regarding the popular Running Start Program;
• Provide responsive educational planning and academic advising for San Juan Center students;
• Administer the Road Scholar program; Supervise administrative staff, on-site group leaders, and contracting with multiple contracted vendors and partners in the region;
• Provide visionary oversight for Road Scholar programming, trends, limitations, and opportunities;
• Other duties and special projects as assigned to meet institutional, student, and Road Scholar program needs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Microsoft Office Suite (including Outlook, Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint);
• Familiarity with CTCLINK, a state-wide administrative system that gives Washington state’s community and technical college students, staff, and faculty access to their college business and accounts;
• Adobe and Adobe Sign skills;
• Strong Excel skills;
• Data analysis;
• Familiarity with College policies, procedures, and guiding principles;
• Work independently or as a team member;
• Interpret the SVC Road Scholar program and college policies and procedures;
• Effectively communicate information and ideas in writing and orally;

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other departments, colleges, tribal employees, and the public;

• Perform complex math skills for budgetary purposes;
• Apply accounting principles for budget review processes;

• Prioritize and multitask workload based on the needs of the department;

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Education, or a closely related field;
• Five (5) years of experience in the administration of education programs or a combination of education and progressively responsible administrative experience or program management experience;
• Proficiency in Excel;
• Have or have the ability to obtain a WA State Van Safety Certification and First-Aid/CPR Certification.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Business Administration, Education, or a closely related field;
• Experience working with community college students;
• Demonstrable record of leading and managing people, developing and maintaining budgets, and providing services to the general population;
• Experience working with community entities in the development of educational opportunities, including high schools;
• Experience developing and managing revenue-producing ventures such as Road Scholar;
• Teaching experience at a community college level;
• General proficiency in ctcLink;
• Five (5) years of experience with educational program administration, staffing, and scheduling.

Salary and Benefits:

• Annual salary rate for this twelve-month, 100% full-time position is $116,354.05.
• Contracts are written annually for the period of July 1 to June 30. This position will be filled as soon as practical after a candidate is identified and the salary will be pro-rated for the remaining contract period.
• This position is exempt from civil service. This position is eligible for overtime.
