Tailor your portfolio to autonomous systems
Skydio's Senior Software Engineering roles consistently require experience in computer vision, path planning, or real-time systems. Highlight projects where you owned safety-critical or performance-constrained code, not just general backend or full-stack work.
Verify Skydio's E-Verify enrollment before applying
F-1 OPT STEM extension eligibility depends on your employer being enrolled in E-Verify. Skydio participates, but confirm the specific hiring entity matches your offer letter before relying on a 24-month STEM extension in your timeline planning.
Front-load visa conversations during the offer stage
Aerospace and defense employers like Skydio often run security clearance reviews alongside hiring. Raise your visa type and work authorization timeline early so legal and recruiting teams can sequence H-1B filing or OPT start dates without colliding with clearance processing.
Align your H-1B registration window with Skydio's fiscal calendar
USCIS opens H-1B registration in March for an October 1 start. If you're interviewing with Skydio in late summer or fall, clarify whether they'll hold the role for the next registration cycle or bridge you on OPT or TN status in the interim.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Senior Software Engineering roles at Skydio
Skydio posts across multiple job boards, making it hard to track which roles are actively sponsoring. Migrate Mate filters specifically for visa-sponsoring positions so you can identify live openings and prioritize your outreach.
Prepare for export control screening in your documents
Defense-adjacent employers must comply with EAR and ITAR regulations, which affect which visa classifications they can sponsor for certain technical roles. Have your citizenship documentation and any prior export control disclosures ready before Skydio's legal team initiates the sponsorship review.

Find Senior Software Engineering at Skydio JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Skydio sponsor H-1B visas for Senior Software Engineers?
Yes, Skydio sponsors H-1B visas for Senior Software Engineering roles. Given the specialized nature of their work in autonomous drone systems, they have a consistent pattern of filing H-1B petitions for engineers in computer vision, robotics, and embedded software. Sponsorship is typically initiated after an offer is extended, so it's worth confirming scope during negotiation rather than assuming it applies to every role.
How do I apply for Senior Software Engineering jobs at Skydio?
Applications go through Skydio's careers page, where Senior Software Engineering roles are listed by team and technical focus. Tailoring your application to the specific domain, whether that's perception, autonomy, or flight software, significantly improves your chances. Migrate Mate also aggregates Skydio's open visa-sponsoring engineering roles in one place, so you can track new postings without monitoring multiple boards separately.
Which visa types does Skydio commonly sponsor for Senior Software Engineering roles?
Skydio sponsors H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN, J-1, and employment-based Green Cards including EB-2 and EB-3 for Senior Software Engineering positions. H-1B is the most common path for long-term sponsorship. Canadian and Mexican nationals with qualifying engineering credentials often use TN status as a faster entry point before transitioning to H-1B or a Green Card later.
What qualifications does Skydio expect for Senior Software Engineering roles?
Skydio's Senior Software Engineering roles typically require a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a closely related field, along with substantial professional experience in performance-constrained or safety-critical systems. Depth in C++, Python, computer vision, or real-time embedded development is common across postings. Aerospace or robotics industry experience is a strong differentiator, though not always explicitly required.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Senior Software Engineering role at Skydio?
Timeline depends on your current status. F-1 OPT can authorize work immediately if your start date falls within your authorized period. H-1B sponsorship follows USCIS's annual lottery cycle, with a standard October 1 start date and premium processing available to reduce adjudication to roughly 15 business days. EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card sponsorship involves PERM labor certification with DOL, which adds months to the overall process.
