Frame your portfolio around scientific software domains
Thermo Fisher prioritizes engineers who've worked on data pipelines, instrument control software, or laboratory information systems. Tailor your resume to show domain-adjacent experience before applying, since generic SWE backgrounds get filtered early.
Confirm LCA postings before your interview
Before your first technical screen, check DOL's FLAG system to verify Thermo Fisher has filed Labor Condition Applications for Senior Software Engineer roles at your target site. This tells you which office locations actively support H-1B hiring.
Target divisions with dedicated engineering headcount
Thermo Fisher's Informatics, Genetic Sciences, and Clinical Diagnostics divisions consistently post Senior Software Engineering openings. Prioritize applications within these units rather than applying broadly across all company divisions.
Clarify sponsorship scope during the offer stage
Ask your recruiter explicitly whether the offer covers H-1B transfer, new cap-subject filing, or both. Thermo Fisher's immigration support can vary by business unit, and you need written confirmation before accepting.
Use Migrate Mate to target open roles efficiently
Filter Senior Software Engineering openings at Thermo Fisher by visa type on Migrate Mate so you're only reviewing roles confirmed for sponsorship. This saves time and ensures you're applying where your immigration situation actually fits.

Find Senior Software Engineering at Thermo Fisher Scientific JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsor H-1B visas for Senior Software Engineers?
Yes, Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsors H-1B visas for Senior Software Engineering roles. The company files both new cap-subject petitions and H-1B transfers for candidates already holding H-1B status with another employer. Sponsorship availability can vary by business unit and location, so confirm the scope of support with your recruiter before accepting an offer.
How do I apply for Senior Software Engineering jobs at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
Applications go through Thermo Fisher's careers portal at thermofisher.com/careers. You can also browse open Senior Software Engineering roles filtered by visa sponsorship type on Migrate Mate, which makes it easier to identify positions that match your immigration situation before you apply directly through the company's official site.
Which visa types does Thermo Fisher Scientific commonly use for Senior Software Engineers?
Thermo Fisher supports H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN, and employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3. For Senior Software Engineering roles, H-1B is the most common nonimmigrant route, while EB-2 and EB-3 PERM-based sponsorship is typically available for longer-tenured employees moving toward permanent residence.
What qualifications does Thermo Fisher Scientific expect for Senior Software Engineering roles?
Most Senior Software Engineering postings at Thermo Fisher require a bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field, plus several years of professional software development experience. Roles within life sciences or diagnostics divisions often expect familiarity with regulated environments, cloud infrastructure, or scientific data platforms alongside core engineering skills.
How long does the sponsorship and hiring process take for Senior Software Engineers at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
From offer acceptance to work authorization, timelines depend on your visa type. An H-1B transfer can move quickly if you're already in valid status. A new cap-subject H-1B requires waiting for the April lottery and an October 1 start date, roughly six to twelve months from registration. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship typically adds two or more years on top of that.
