Verify Your California School Nurse Credentials Early
California requires a School Nurse Services Credential on top of your RN license. Sutter Health will expect both before extending an offer, so start the credentialing process well ahead of your job search to avoid delays.
Target Sutter Health's School-Based Health Centers
Sutter Health places School Nurses across school-based health center programs, not just hospital settings. Filter job searches to these site types, since they're the most active hiring pipeline for this specific role category.
Ask About PERM Labor Certification Timelines Upfront
If Sutter Health offers EB-3 sponsorship, a PERM labor certification through DOL is required before the immigrant petition. Processing can take 12 to 18 months, so understanding where you'd sit in that timeline shapes your planning.
Browse Open Roles on Migrate Mate Before Applying Directly
Search Sutter Health's School Nurse openings on Migrate Mate to see which positions are tied to verified sponsorship activity. This filters out roles where sponsorship is theoretically possible but not actively supported.
Prepare Your Credentials Package for the H-1B Specialty Occupation Standard
USCIS requires that a School Nurse role meet the specialty occupation definition, meaning a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field is the minimum entry requirement. Have your nursing degree evaluation and RN license documentation ready before your employer files Form I-129.

Find School Nurse at Sutter Health JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Sutter Health sponsor H-1B visas for School Nurses?
Yes, Sutter Health has sponsored H-1B visas for nursing roles including School Nurses. Because School Nurse positions typically require a specialized degree and active licensure, they generally meet USCIS's specialty occupation threshold. Confirm sponsorship availability directly with the recruiter during the initial screening, since not every open role is approved for sponsorship.
How do I apply for School Nurse jobs at Sutter Health?
You can search and apply for School Nurse positions through Sutter Health's careers portal or browse verified sponsorship-linked openings on Migrate Mate. Prepare a resume that highlights your RN licensure, any California School Nurse Services Credential, and relevant school or community health experience. Mentioning visa sponsorship needs early in the recruiter conversation avoids surprises later.
Which visa types does Sutter Health commonly use for School Nurse roles?
Sutter Health uses H-1B visas for temporary work authorization and supports EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa pathways for permanent residency. H-1B is the most common starting point. EB-3 is the typical green card route for registered nurses, requiring a PERM labor certification filed through the Department of Labor before USCIS processes the immigrant petition.
What qualifications does Sutter Health expect for sponsored School Nurse positions?
Sutter Health expects an active California RN license, a bachelor's degree in nursing or a related health field, and ideally a California School Nurse Services Credential. Some postings also require pediatric or community health experience. Foreign-educated nurses should have their credentials evaluated through a NCSBN-recognized organization before applying, as USCIS will require this for the H-1B petition.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Sutter Health School Nurse role?
H-1B sponsorship through USCIS standard processing takes three to five months from petition filing. Premium processing reduces that to 15 business days. If you're pursuing an EB-3 green card, factor in 12 to 18 months for PERM labor certification through DOL, followed by the I-140 immigrant petition. Your total timeline depends heavily on which pathway Sutter Health agrees to support.
