Align your degree to hardware-adjacent domains
Teradyne's software roles sit at the intersection of software and electronics hardware testing. A degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering strengthens your specialty occupation case when USCIS evaluates your H-1B petition.
Target roles with embedded or low-level scope
Teradyne actively fills positions involving firmware, device drivers, and test automation for semiconductor equipment. These roles carry clearer specialty occupation arguments than generalist software titles, which matters when your employer is building the LCA with DOL.
Ask about Green Card timelines during offer negotiation
Teradyne sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 petitions, but PERM labor certification adds 12 to 24 months before I-140 filing. Confirm whether your offer includes a Green Card commitment and at what point in your tenure the process typically starts.
Use OPT and CPT to build internal sponsorship history
If you're on F-1 status, joining Teradyne through CPT or OPT creates a performance record before your H-1B cap registration window opens each March. Internal candidates with demonstrated contributions have a stronger footing when the employer decides who to register.
Browse Teradyne Software Engineer openings on Migrate Mate
Verified sponsorship history for this role type is already filtered and searchable. Use Migrate Mate to find active Teradyne Software Engineer listings and confirm which positions are open to sponsored candidates before you apply.
Clarify your TN eligibility before accepting an offer
Canadian and Mexican nationals with Computer Systems Analyst or Engineer credentials may qualify for TN status, which Teradyne sponsors and which bypasses the H-1B lottery entirely. Confirm your job title maps to an approved TN category before your offer letter is finalized.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Teradyne sponsor H-1B visas for Software Engineers?
Yes. Teradyne sponsors H-1B visas for Software Engineer roles and has a consistent track record doing so. The company files both new cap-subject petitions and cap-exempt transfers for existing employees. Because Teradyne's software roles tie directly to semiconductor and electronics test systems, the specialty occupation requirement is generally well-supported by the nature of the work.
How do I apply for Software Engineer jobs at Teradyne?
Applications go through Teradyne's careers portal. Search by role type and filter for engineering positions in locations like North Reading, MA or San Jose, CA, where their test and measurement divisions are concentrated. You can also find verified sponsorship-friendly openings through Migrate Mate, which surfaces Teradyne Software Engineer roles alongside confirmed sponsorship history for the position.
Which visa types does Teradyne sponsor for Software Engineer roles?
Teradyne sponsors H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN visa, and employment-based Green Cards including EB-2 and EB-3 classifications. TN visa is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals whose credentials align with approved treaty categories. Green Card sponsorship typically follows after an initial period of employment and involves PERM labor certification filed with the DOL.
What qualifications does Teradyne expect for sponsored Software Engineer roles?
Most roles require a bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a closely related field. Teradyne's software teams work on test systems for chips, circuit boards, and storage devices, so experience with low-level programming, embedded systems, or hardware interface software carries significant weight over general-purpose application development backgrounds.
How do I time my H-1B application when starting at Teradyne on OPT?
USCIS opens H-1B cap registration each March for an October 1 start date. If you join Teradyne on OPT before March, your employer can register you in that same year's lottery. STEM OPT extensions provide up to 24 additional months of work authorization, giving you a second registration window if you don't get selected in your first year.
