Align your degree to Teradyne's hardware focus
Teradyne's engineering roles center on semiconductor test systems, robotics, and PCB design. A degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a closely related hardware discipline strengthens your specialty occupation case far more than a general engineering background.
Target roles matching your OPT timeline
If you're on F-1 OPT, apply to Teradyne positions early enough to allow time for offer negotiation and LCA filing before your OPT expires. STEM OPT gives you a 24-month extension window, but your employer must be E-Verify enrolled before you can apply.
Search Teradyne engineering openings on Migrate Mate
Filter by visa type and engineering function on Migrate Mate to surface Teradyne roles that match your sponsorship needs. This saves time you'd otherwise spend cold-screening job listings with no visibility into sponsorship eligibility.
Distinguish between H-1B and TN eligibility early
If you're Canadian or Mexican, TN status covers engineers in specific qualifying disciplines and processes at the port of entry without USCIS filing. Confirm your engineering role falls under a recognized TN occupation before assuming you need H-1B sponsorship.
Ask about PERM timing during the offer stage
Teradyne sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards, but PERM labor certification can take 12 to 18 months before an I-140 is even filed. Asking about the company's Green Card process during offer negotiation helps you understand your long-term path before you accept.
Document hardware project experience with specificity
Teradyne's H-1B petitions for engineering roles require evidence that the position demands specialized knowledge. Prepare detailed records of your work on test automation systems, FPGA design, or embedded hardware, not just job titles, to support the specialty occupation requirement USCIS applies.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Teradyne sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
Yes, Teradyne sponsors H-1B visas for engineering roles. The company files petitions across electrical, software, systems, and hardware engineering disciplines. Because H-1B sponsorship requires USCIS approval and is subject to the annual lottery for cap-subject candidates, your best path is securing an offer well before the April registration window opens each year.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at Teradyne?
Apply directly through Teradyne's careers portal or browse open engineering positions filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate. Tailor your application to the specific engineering domain, whether that's test systems, robotics, or semiconductor hardware, since Teradyne's hiring teams look for candidates with relevant domain depth, not just general engineering credentials.
Which visa types does Teradyne typically use for Engineering roles?
Teradyne sponsors H-1B visas as the primary work authorization path for international engineers. The company also supports F-1 OPT and CPT for students currently enrolled or recently graduated, TN visa status for qualifying Canadian and Mexican engineers, and EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card sponsorship for longer-term employees pursuing permanent residence.
What qualifications does Teradyne expect for sponsored Engineering positions?
Teradyne's sponsored engineering roles generally require a bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering, computer engineering, software engineering, or a closely related field. Practical experience with test equipment, embedded systems, robotics, or semiconductor design is a strong differentiator. Roles tied to H-1B sponsorship must qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS criteria, so degree-to-role alignment matters significantly.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Teradyne Engineering role?
Timeline depends on visa type. TN status for Canadian engineers can be obtained at the border on the day of entry. H-1B processing under regular service takes three to five months after the October 1 start date, with premium processing available for a 15-business-day USCIS adjudication. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3 typically runs 18 months or more from initiation to I-140 approval, not including any priority date wait.
