Target research and faculty roles first
UNTHSC's sponsorship activity is concentrated in research, clinical, and academic faculty positions. When applying, focus your search on departments like biomedical sciences, public health, and clinical medicine, where international hiring is most common.
Understand the H-1B timeline before applying
UNTHSC sponsors H-1B visas, but the cap-subject lottery runs once a year. If you're not already in H-1B status, time your applications so an offer can align with the April filing window. Start conversations with HR early.
Ask directly about Green Card sponsorship
UNTHSC has sponsored employment-based Green Cards for qualifying staff. If long-term authorization matters to you, ask during the offer stage whether the role is eligible for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship before accepting.
Leverage your F-1 OPT or CPT to get a foot in the door
UNTHSC supports F-1 OPT and CPT, giving international students a practical path to work before committing to full H-1B sponsorship. A research or clinical training placement can often transition into a longer-term sponsored role.
Use a platform that surfaces real sponsorship history
Not every UNTHSC posting will mention visa sponsorship explicitly. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history and focus your applications on roles where sponsorship is genuinely on the table.
Tailor your application to UNTHSC's academic mission
UNTHSC prioritizes candidates who contribute to its health sciences mission. Highlight research output, clinical credentials, or teaching experience relevant to its programs. Sponsorship decisions at academic institutions are closely tied to departmental need and candidate fit.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does University of North Texas Health Science Center sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, University of North Texas Health Science Center sponsors H-1B visas. It has a consistent track record of filing H-1B petitions, primarily for roles in research, clinical practice, and academic faculty. As a public university, UNTHSC is a cap-exempt employer, which means it can file H-1B petitions year-round without being subject to the annual lottery. This is a significant advantage for applicants who have missed the cap-subject filing window.
What visa types does University of North Texas Health Science Center sponsor?
UNTHSC sponsors several visa categories, including H-1B, TN visa, and F-1 OPT and CPT for students in training positions. It also has a track record of sponsoring employment-based Green Cards through the EB-2 and EB-3 pathways for qualifying long-term staff. The visa type offered generally depends on the role, department, and the candidate's current immigration status and qualifications.
Which departments or roles at UNTHSC are most likely to offer visa sponsorship?
Sponsorship at UNTHSC is most common in research-intensive and clinical departments, including biomedical sciences, osteopathic medicine, public health, and health professions. Faculty positions, postdoctoral researchers, and specialized clinical roles tend to have the clearest sponsorship pathways. Administrative and support roles are less likely to involve visa sponsorship unless they require a highly specialized skill set.
How do I find visa-sponsored job openings at University of North Texas Health Science Center?
The most reliable approach is to use a platform that tracks verified sponsorship history rather than relying on job postings alone. Migrate Mate lets you filter open roles by employer sponsorship track record, so you can identify UNTHSC positions where international candidates have historically been hired. From there, apply directly through UNTHSC's careers portal and flag your visa status early in the screening process.
How do I approach the application process at UNTHSC as an international candidate?
Apply through UNTHSC's official careers portal and be transparent about your visa status from the start. Because UNTHSC is cap-exempt, timing is more flexible than with private employers. That said, sponsorship still requires departmental budget approval and HR coordination, so it helps to bring it up early rather than after an offer is made. Emphasizing your research contributions or clinical credentials specific to UNTHSC's health sciences focus will strengthen your candidacy.
