Align your credentials with U.S. academic standards
If your highest degree was earned outside the U.S., get a credential evaluation from a NACES-member organization before applying. Villanova hiring committees expect transcripts and qualifications framed in terms U.S. academic reviewers can assess quickly.
Target departments with recurring instructor openings
Villanova's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and its business and engineering schools post instructor roles with some regularity. Narrowing your search to departments that match your teaching area increases the chance you're applying where sponsorship infrastructure already exists.
Clarify visa type eligibility before your first interview
Instructor roles at universities can be filled through H-1B, TN, J-1, or OPT depending on your nationality and status. Knowing which category applies to you before the offer stage prevents delays and signals to Villanova's HR team that you understand the process.
Understand how the H-1B cap affects your timeline
If you need a new H-1B, USCIS registration opens in March for an October 1 start. Universities are cap-exempt employers, so Villanova can file an H-1B at any time of year, giving you more scheduling flexibility than a private-sector role would.
Use Migrate Mate to surface Villanova instructor openings filtered by visa type
Filtering by role and sponsorship history saves time when targeting a specific employer. Migrate Mate lets you browse Villanova instructor postings alongside the visa categories the university has sponsored, so you can prioritize applications where your status is a fit.
Negotiate start dates around PERM or petition timelines
If Villanova intends to sponsor you for an EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card, the PERM labor certification process with DOL typically takes six to twelve months before USCIS even sees the petition. Raising this early in the offer discussion helps both sides set realistic expectations.

Does Villanova University sponsor H-1B visas for Instructors?
Yes. Villanova University sponsors H-1B visas for Instructor roles. As a nonprofit university, Villanova qualifies as a cap-exempt H-1B employer, which means it can file H-1B petitions with USCIS at any point in the year rather than being limited to the annual April lottery cycle. This makes timing more flexible for both you and the university when negotiating a start date.
How do I apply for Instructor jobs at Villanova University?
Villanova University posts open Instructor positions through its official careers portal. Applications typically require a cover letter, CV, teaching philosophy statement, and professional references. For international candidates, it's worth confirming your visa eligibility before submitting. You can also browse Villanova Instructor openings filtered by sponsorship category on Migrate Mate to identify roles where your immigration status is a practical fit.
Which visa types does Villanova University commonly use for Instructor roles?
Villanova sponsors several visa categories for Instructor positions depending on your background and nationality. H-1B is the most common pathway for long-term employment. J-1 is frequently used for visiting or exchange faculty. TN visas apply to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying academic roles. F-1 OPT and CPT allow recent graduates to work while completing or following their degree program. EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship is available for permanent positions.
What qualifications does Villanova University expect for Instructor positions?
Most Instructor roles at Villanova require at minimum a master's degree in a relevant field, though many positions, particularly in graduate-level programs, expect a doctorate. Teaching experience at the post-secondary level and a record of scholarly or professional engagement in your discipline are commonly expected. For international candidates, credentials earned abroad should be evaluated by a NACES-member credential evaluation service to ensure they're legible to U.S. academic hiring committees.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for an Instructor role at Villanova?
Timeline depends heavily on the visa type. H-1B petitions filed by Villanova as a cap-exempt employer typically take two to six months with standard USCIS processing, or a few weeks with premium processing. J-1 sponsorship through a designated sponsor program can move faster. If Villanova pursues a Green Card through PERM, budget at least six to twelve months for DOL labor certification alone before USCIS adjudicates the immigrant petition. Starting the conversation about sponsorship type early in the offer process gives both sides the most flexibility.
