Align your credentials with U.S. accreditation standards
Foreign academic credentials often need evaluation before a university HR team will process your application. Get a credential evaluation from a NACES-member organization that maps your degree to its U.S. equivalent, since Villanova hiring committees assess faculty qualifications against accreditation benchmarks.
Target departments with ongoing instructional needs
Villanova regularly posts Teaching openings across its colleges of Engineering, Business, Nursing, and Arts and Sciences. Identifying departments tied to growing programs gives you better odds of finding a role structured for multi-year employment, which is what most visa sponsorship arrangements require.
Clarify sponsorship scope before accepting an offer
Some Teaching offers at universities cover H-1B sponsorship but not permanent residence. Ask directly whether the department supports PERM and EB-2 or EB-3 filing, since that determines whether you can build a long-term career at Villanova without restarting the immigration process elsewhere.
Understand J-1 limitations before the interview stage
Villanova sponsors J-1 visas for certain Teaching and exchange scholar roles, but J-1 holders subject to the two-year home residency requirement cannot easily transition to H-1B status without a waiver. Confirm which visa category the role falls under before you get deep into negotiations.
Time your application around the H-1B cap filing window
If your Teaching role requires a new H-1B, USCIS only accepts cap-subject petitions in April for an October 1 start date. Work backward from that window when negotiating a start date with Villanova, and confirm whether the university will file with premium processing to meet your timeline.
Browse verified Teaching openings through Migrate Mate
Finding Teaching roles at universities that actively sponsor visas takes more than a standard job board search. Use Migrate Mate to filter for Villanova University openings by visa type, so you spend your time on applications where sponsorship is already confirmed rather than discovering the limitation after an interview.

Find Teaching at Villanova University JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Villanova University sponsor H-1B visas for Teaching roles?
Yes, Villanova University sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying Teaching positions. Faculty and instructor roles that require a specialized degree in a specific academic field generally meet USCIS's specialty occupation standard. The university's HR and international services teams manage the petition process, but you should confirm sponsorship availability with the hiring department early in the conversation, since not every Teaching role is budgeted for it.
How do I apply for Teaching jobs at Villanova University?
Teaching positions at Villanova are posted through the university's careers portal, typically requiring a cover letter, CV, teaching philosophy statement, and academic references. Faculty searches are often run by departmental hiring committees rather than central HR, so tailoring your application materials to the specific department and its research or instructional focus matters more than a generic submission. Migrate Mate can help you find open roles filtered by visa sponsorship availability.
Which visa types does Villanova University commonly use for Teaching roles?
Villanova sponsors several visa categories for Teaching professionals. H-1B is the most common path for full-time faculty and instructors in specialty occupation roles. J-1 is used for visiting scholars and exchange faculty. F-1 OPT and CPT are available for students moving into temporary teaching or research assistant roles. TN visas are an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying academic positions. For longer-term faculty, EB-2 or EB-3 immigrant visa sponsorship through PERM is also possible.
What qualifications does Villanova University expect for Teaching positions?
Expectations vary by department and rank, but tenure-track faculty roles typically require a completed doctorate in the relevant field. Lecturer and instructor positions may accept a master's degree combined with professional experience, particularly in practice-oriented colleges like business or engineering. If your degree was earned outside the United States, a formal credential evaluation that confirms equivalency to a U.S. degree strengthens your application and simplifies the H-1B specialty occupation assessment.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Teaching role at Villanova?
If your role requires a new H-1B, the timeline hinges on the annual cap cycle. USCIS accepts cap-subject petitions in early April for an October 1 start date, so you and the university need to complete negotiations well before that window. PERM labor certification for permanent residence cases filed through DOL typically takes one to two years before an immigrant petition can be filed. J-1 processing through the university's sponsoring office generally moves faster, often within a few weeks of a completed application.
