Align your credentials with specialty occupation standards
Construction roles at consulting firms like Westwood must qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS criteria. A degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a closely related field strengthens your petition far more than general construction experience alone.
Target project-based openings over general postings
Westwood typically hires Construction professionals tied to active infrastructure or land development projects. Roles tied to a specific client engagement are more likely to move quickly through internal approval, since the business need is already documented and funded.
Search open Construction roles through Migrate Mate
Westwood's Construction openings appear across multiple job boards, making it easy to miss sponsorship-eligible postings. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Westwood roles that align with your visa type before applying through the company's official portal.
Clarify visa type fit before the offer stage
Westwood sponsors several visa categories including H-1B, TN, and Green Card pathways. If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm whether your role and degree field support a cap-gap extension, since Construction timelines can stretch past your OPT expiration date.
Prepare your LCA documentation early in the process
Before USCIS can adjudicate your H-1B petition, Westwood's HR team must file a certified Labor Condition Application with the DOL. Understanding this step helps you ask the right questions during offer negotiations and set realistic start date expectations.
Request a written sponsorship commitment before resigning
Consulting firms sometimes adjust project headcount after offer acceptance. Get written confirmation of Westwood's intent to file your visa petition, including the anticipated filing timeline, before giving notice to any current employer or letting your current status lapse.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Westwood Professional Services sponsor H-1B visas for Construction roles?
Yes, Westwood Professional Services sponsors H-1B visas for Construction roles. The role must qualify as a specialty occupation, which generally requires a bachelor's degree or higher in civil engineering, construction management, or a directly related field. Because Westwood operates in consulting and professional services, most technical Construction positions meet this threshold, but the specific job duties in your offer letter matter for the petition.
How do I apply for Construction jobs at Westwood Professional Services?
Start by browsing open Construction roles on Westwood's careers page or through Migrate Mate, which filters for sponsorship-eligible positions so you're not wasting time on roles that won't support your visa. Apply directly through the company portal with a resume tailored to infrastructure or land development consulting. During the interview process, address your visa status early so the hiring team can loop in HR before an offer is extended.
Which visa types are commonly used for Construction roles at Westwood Professional Services?
Westwood sponsors H-1B and Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for Construction professionals in longer-term roles. F-1 OPT and CPT are supported for students and recent graduates, and TN visas are available to eligible Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying Construction occupations. J-1 visa sponsorship is also available, though it's less common for full-time Construction hires and more relevant to internship or training placements.
What qualifications does Westwood Professional Services expect for Construction roles?
Most Construction roles at Westwood require a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related technical discipline. For H-1B sponsorship specifically, your degree must align directly with the duties of the role. Project experience in land development, site design, or infrastructure consulting is valued. Professional licensure such as an EIT or PE credential improves your candidacy, particularly for roles that involve client-facing deliverables or sealed documents.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Construction role at Westwood?
If you're on F-1 OPT, work can begin relatively quickly while Westwood initiates the H-1B process for the next cap season. Standard H-1B processing through USCIS takes three to six months after the April lottery, with premium processing reducing adjudication to roughly 15 business days. For Green Card pathways through PERM, the full process from labor market testing to I-140 approval typically takes one to two years depending on your priority date and country of birth.
