Entry Level Computer Science Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level computer science job?
Build a portfolio of personal or academic projects that demonstrate real coding ability, since most entry level computer science employers care more about what you can build than how many years you have worked. Tailor your resume to each role by matching the skills listed in the job posting, highlight any internship or coursework experience, and practice common technical interview formats like coding challenges and system design basics.
Which companies hire entry level computer sciences?
Companies hiring entry level computer sciences right now include RePublic Schools, University of California Merced, and Virginia Community College System, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a wide range of employers, including large technology firms with structured new grad programs, startups that need generalist junior contributors, and enterprises in finance, healthcare, and retail expanding their engineering teams.
Are there remote entry level computer science jobs?
Yes, though availability varies by employer and role type. About 8% of entry level computer science openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, making it a realistic option for candidates who are not tied to a specific city. Many fully remote junior roles still require overlap with a core team time zone, so check the schedule expectations before applying.
Are these new grad computer science jobs?
Yes, the listings here include new grad, recent graduate, and junior roles alongside other entry level positions. A posting is generally new grad friendly when it welcomes zero to two years of experience, counts internships or academic projects toward that requirement, or explicitly accepts a strong portfolio in place of professional history. Look for language like "no experience required" or "recent graduates encouraged to apply" as clear signals.
Which industries hire the most entry level computer sciences?
Entry Level computer science roles concentrate in Education, Science & Research, and Government & Public Sector, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Those sectors drive hiring at this level because they are expanding their engineering and technical teams rapidly and often run structured new grad or rotational programs designed to onboard candidates with limited professional experience.
