Construction Estimator Jobs in Indiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a construction estimator in Indiana?
Most construction estimators in Indiana enter through a bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or architecture technology, with programs at Purdue University, Ball State University, and Indiana State University being common pipelines. Indiana does not issue a state-specific license for estimators, but the Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) designation from the American Society of Professional Estimators carries strong weight with Indiana commercial and civil contractors. Field experience gained through internships or project coordinator roles is typically required before moving into independent estimating work.
Which companies hire construction estimators in Indiana?
Employers hiring construction estimators in Indiana right now include Turner & Townsend Pty Limited, Weddle Bros., and InPwr, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Indiana's active commercial development and public infrastructure investment mean that both regional general contractors and national firms with Indiana offices post estimating roles throughout the year.
Which Indiana cities have the most construction estimator jobs?
Indianapolis, Fishers, and Salem have the most construction estimator openings in Indiana. Indianapolis drives the largest share of demand as the state's primary hub for commercial development, corporate headquarters construction, and healthcare system expansion, while Fort Wayne and Evansville anchor strong regional markets tied to industrial manufacturing and civic infrastructure projects that consistently require dedicated estimating staff.
Are there remote construction estimator jobs in Indiana?
Yes, but they're limited. About 14% of construction estimator openings tied to Indiana are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the fact that much of the work involves site visits, subcontractor meetings, and hands-on plan review that is difficult to perform fully off-site. The portions of the role most commonly done remotely are digital quantity takeoffs and bid assembly for estimators working with well-documented project packages.
How can I get hired as a construction estimator in Indiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a project engineer or assistant estimator role at a mid-size Indiana general contractor, where you support senior estimators on bid preparation before taking on independent scopes. Employers such as Shiel Sexton and Pepper Construction hire new graduates from Purdue's construction management program into rotational roles that include estimating exposure. Building takeoff skills through self-study with Bluebeam and assembling a sample estimate as a portfolio piece can help candidates without direct experience stand out during interviews.
Where can I find and apply to construction estimator jobs in Indiana?
You can find and apply to construction estimator jobs in Indiana on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring across the state right now. Search the roles that fit your experience level and specialty, then apply directly to the ones that match.
