Construction Estimator Jobs in Tennessee: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a construction estimator in Tennessee?
Most Tennessee construction estimators enter the field with a bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or architecture, though strong candidates with associate degrees and hands-on field experience are regularly hired. Tennessee does not issue a state license specifically for construction estimators, but employers in the state commonly favor candidates who hold the Certified Professional Estimator credential through the American Society of Professional Estimators or the Associate Constructor designation through the American Institute of Constructors.
Which companies hire construction estimators in Tennessee?
Employers hiring construction estimators in Tennessee right now include AIS Infrastructure, Apex Restoration DKI, and Entius, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Tennessee's sustained infrastructure investment and active commercial development pipeline keep a broad range of general contractors, specialty subcontractors, and owner-developer firms posting estimating roles year-round.
Which Tennessee cities have the most construction estimator jobs?
Nashville, Chattanooga, and Franklin are the Tennessee cities with the most construction estimator openings. Nashville leads because of its sustained commercial and mixed-use development boom, while Memphis generates volume through industrial and logistics construction tied to its distribution corridor, and Knoxville's activity reflects ongoing public infrastructure work and University of Tennessee campus projects.
Are there remote construction estimator jobs in Tennessee?
Yes, though they are less common than in purely desk-based fields. About 0% of construction estimator openings tied to Tennessee are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the role's mix of office-based quantity takeoff work and on-site scope verification. The takeoff and proposal-writing phases are most frequently performed remotely, while site walks and pre-bid meetings typically require an in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a construction estimator in Tennessee with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an estimating coordinator or assistant estimator role at a mid-size Tennessee general contractor, where candidates support senior estimators on bid preparation and quantity takeoffs before managing their own scopes. Large Tennessee firms and public owners like the Tennessee Department of Transportation hire entry-level project engineers who rotate through estimating, and community college construction management programs at institutions like Nashville State and Pellissippi State often have direct employer relationships. Building proficiency in Bluebeam or PlanSwift and completing an internship during school gives candidates a clear edge at the hiring stage.
