Verity is hiring a founding Senior Manager, Design Systems Engineer to build Verity Canvas, our code-canonical design system for healthcare software. This role sits at the center of Figma, React, accessibility, and production code. You will keep our real codebase and Figma library aligned, turning design decisions into type-safe, accessible components that product teams can trust. As we migrate from Angular to React, you will help build the system that makes our next generation of UI consistent, scalable, and meaningful for the people who rely on it.
Responsibilities
- Own the @verity/ui component library as a versioned package built on accessible headless primitives and styled through design tokens.
- Build and maintain the @verity/tokens pipeline from DTCG design tokens through Style Dictionary, CSS custom properties, and typed output.
- Create a code-to-Figma token workflow using Figma Variables, staging files, and review practices that prevent silent design drift.
- Author Code Connect mappings so Figma Dev Mode and coding agents generate real @verity/ui components instead of generic markup.
- Define the AI-ready system surface, including MCP context, component manifests, registries, repo guidance, and agent evaluation workflows.
- Strengthen CI quality gates for accessibility, visual regression, app-level regression, linting, and code ownership.
- Manage release discipline through Changesets, semantic versioning, API contract checks, and migration-ready codemods.
- Partner with designers and product teams on Figma conventions, adoption, governance, promotion, and deprecation workflows.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5+ years of experience building front-end systems, design systems, or component libraries with React and TypeScript.
- Experience designing typed component APIs and shipping a design system as a published package used by other teams.
- Hands-on experience with Figma Dev Mode, variables, and Code Connect, or similar design-to-code workflows.
- Experience building design token pipelines using DTCG formats and tools such as Style Dictionary or Tokens Studio.
- Strong accessibility expertise, including ARIA, keyboard interaction, focus management, and automated checks such as axe.
- Experience with Storybook, visual regression testing, CI/CD, modern Git workflows, and package management in monorepos.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Base UI, Radix, React Aria, Ariakit, or similar headless primitive libraries.
- Experience with pnpm workspaces, Turborepo, Changesets, semver, API Extractor, or type-aware codemods.
- Experience with AI-native development workflows, MCP tooling, coding agents, registries, or agent evaluation harnesses.
- Experience pushing tokens from code into Figma or working with the Figma Variables REST API.
- Experience in healthcare, regulated environments, or products where accessibility and precision are essential.
If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.

Design Engineer Jobs in Tennessee: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a design engineer in Tennessee?
Most design engineer roles in Tennessee require a bachelor's degree in mechanical, civil, electrical, or a related engineering field. Candidates seeking licensure must register with the Tennessee State Board of Architectural and Engineering Examiners, passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam followed by the Principles and Practice of Engineering exam to earn Professional Engineer status. Many employers, particularly in automotive and aerospace manufacturing, hire engineers without a PE license for product and manufacturing design roles, prioritizing relevant coursework and CAD proficiency.
Which companies hire design engineers in Tennessee?
Employers hiring design engineers in Tennessee right now include Amazon, Schneider Electric, and Inner Circle Agency, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Tennessee's concentration of automotive plants, defense contractors, and utility infrastructure projects means consistent openings at large industrial employers with long-term engineering staffing needs.
Which Tennessee cities have the most design engineer jobs?
Nashville, Memphis, and Knoxville have the most design engineer openings in Tennessee. Nashville's growth as a regional headquarters hub for manufacturing and infrastructure firms drives volume there, while Chattanooga's Volkswagen plant and industrial corridor and Knoxville's proximity to Tennessee Valley Authority and Oak Ridge National Laboratory sustain steady engineering demand in those markets.
Are there remote design engineer jobs in Tennessee?
Yes, but they're limited. Design engineering often requires hands-on work with prototypes, manufacturing equipment, or construction sites, which keeps most roles on-site or hybrid. About 62% of design engineer openings tied to Tennessee are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with the remote portion concentrated in software-integrated design, systems specification, and technical documentation work where physical presence is less critical.
How can I get hired as a design engineer in Tennessee with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a new-graduate engineering role at one of Tennessee's large automotive or aerospace manufacturers, which regularly run structured rotational and associate engineer programs for recent degree holders. Bridgestone Americas and Volkswagen Chattanooga both hire entry-level engineers into production and quality design pipelines. Building a portfolio of CAD-based projects or coursework designs strengthens early applications, and candidates who pass the Fundamentals of Engineering exam before graduating stand out in competitive new-grad hiring cycles.
Where can I find and apply to design engineer jobs in Tennessee?
You can find and apply to design engineer jobs in Tennessee on Migrate Mate, which lists current Tennessee openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Find roles that fit your experience and specialty and apply directly to the positions that match.
