Construction Intern Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a construction intern in Texas?
Most construction intern roles in Texas require active enrollment in a construction management, civil engineering, or architecture program at an accredited Texas university such as Texas A&M, UT Austin, or Texas Tech. Texas does not require a state license to work as an intern, but obtaining an OSHA 10 certification before applying gives candidates a concrete edge. Firms recruiting on campuses across Texas typically select interns in the spring for summer or fall placements.
Which companies hire construction interns in Texas?
Employers hiring construction interns in Texas right now include Intertek, Braun Intertec, and ECS Limited, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of large commercial, energy, and infrastructure projects means general contractors and engineering firms here run some of the most structured intern programs in the country.
Which Texas cities have the most construction intern jobs?
Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas consistently post the most construction intern openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its scale as a petrochemical and commercial construction hub, Dallas drives demand through rapid commercial and mixed-use development, and San Antonio's sustained population growth keeps institutional and residential construction firms actively recruiting interns.
Are there remote construction intern jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Construction intern work is inherently site-based, so most roles require a physical presence on job sites or in field offices. About 10% of construction intern openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions are typically limited to estimating, scheduling, or administrative support functions rather than field work.
How can I get hired as a construction intern in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is applying directly to structured summer intern programs run by large Texas general contractors and engineering firms, which are designed for students with limited field time. Turner Construction, Balfour Beatty, and Austin Industries all recruit interns without prior site experience if you are enrolled in a relevant program. Starting as a laborer or project assistant on a smaller residential crew in Texas also builds the site exposure that larger firms look for in subsequent internship rounds. Completing OSHA 10 before applying signals readiness and removes a common screening barrier.
Where can I find and apply to construction intern jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to construction intern jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your experience and location, and apply directly to the employer through the listing.
