Project Engineer - Solar Energy

Position Summary

This role supports the delivery of solar energy construction projects by coordinating technical, commercial, procurement, documentation, safety, and quality activities from planning through closeout. This position collaborates closely with Project Managers, Operations, Estimating, Procurement, Superintendents, subcontractors, and clients to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with all applicable quality and regulatory requirements.

The Project Engineer coordinates technical project activities, manages project documentation, tracks schedules and costs, supports procurement efforts, reviews plans and specifications, and assists with project closeout activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist Project Managers with planning, execution, and delivery of solar construction projects.
• Review project drawings, specifications, contracts, and scope documents.
• Coordinate project activities among engineering, operations, subcontractors, vendors, and clients.
• Participate in project kickoff and ongoing status meetings.
• Support the development and maintenance of project schedules and milestones.
• Track project progress and identify potential delays or risks.
• Review construction drawings and design packages for completeness and constructability.
• Assist with Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, change orders, and engineering clarifications.
• Coordinate with design engineers, utility companies, AHJs (Authorities Having Jurisdiction), and project stakeholders.
• Ensure construction activities comply with approved plans, specifications, and industry standards.
• Support troubleshooting of field engineering and technical issues.
• Coordinate procurement of equipment and materials required for project execution.
• Track material deliveries and ensure alignment with project schedules.
• Assist with vendor and supplier communications.
• Monitor inventory needs and support logistics planning.
• Assist with project budgeting and cost tracking.
• Monitor labor, equipment, and material costs.
• Support preparation of cost reports and project forecasts.
• Assist with reviewing subcontractor invoices and payment applications.
• Track project change orders and associated cost impacts.
• Maintain accurate project records, logs, and documentation.
• Manage submittal registers, RFI logs, meeting minutes, and project correspondence.
• Ensure compliance with contract requirements, permits, and regulatory standards.
• Support project quality control and quality assurance activities.
• Assist with project closeout documentation and turnover packages.
• Promote a culture of safety and compliance.
• Support implementation of company safety policies and procedures.
• Participate in project safety meetings and audits.
• Assist in ensuring quality standards are met throughout project execution.
• Any other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Renewable Energy, or a related field preferred.
• 2-5 years of project engineering, construction, or renewable energy experience preferred.
• Knowledge of utility-scale, commercial, or industrial solar construction projects.
• Understanding of electrical and photovoltaic (PV) systems and renewable energy technologies.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contracts.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with solar EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) projects.
• Knowledge of NEC, OSHA, and applicable construction standards.
• Familiarity with project management software such as Procore, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar platforms.
• Experience supporting utility-scale solar, battery energy storage (BESS), or renewable energy projects.
• OSHA 30 Certification preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, and climb stairs for extended periods.
• Ability to work in outdoor construction environments and varying weather conditions.
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to travel to project sites as needed.

Work Environment

• Combination of office and field-based work.
• Frequent interaction with project teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients.
• May require travel to active solar construction sites.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
