Position Summary

The School Counselor provides comprehensive school counseling services that support the academic, social-emotional, and development of students. The counselor works collaboratively with teachers, administrators, families, and community partners to promote a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment where all students can thrive.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Student Support and Counseling

• Provide individual and small-group counseling to support students’ academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development.
• Assist students in developing conflict resolution, coping, self-regulation, and decision-making skills.
• Respond to student crises and provide appropriate intervention and referrals when necessary.
• Support students experiencing academic difficulties, behavioral concerns, attendance issues, or personal challenges.

Academic Guidance

• Monitor student academic progress and collaborate with teachers and families to support student achievement.
• Assist students in developing organizational, study, and goal-setting skills.
• Support transitions between grade levels, including elementary-to-middle school transitions.
• Coordinate interventions and support plans for at-risk students.

Social-Emotional Learning (SEL)

• Develop and implement school counseling programs aligned with students’ developmental needs.
• Deliver classroom guidance lessons focused on character development, emotional wellness, peer relationships, digital citizenship, and responsible decision-making.
• Promote a positive school climate that supports student well-being and belonging.

Collaboration and Communication

• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, and support staff to address student needs.
• Participate in student support teams, MTSS/RTI meetings, behavioral intervention meetings, and parent conferences.
• Maintain regular communication with families regarding student concerns and available resources.
• Coordinate referrals to outside agencies and community resources as appropriate.

Behavioral and Attendance Support

• Support implementation of behavior intervention strategies and restorative practices.
• Monitor attendance trends and assist with attendance improvement efforts.
• Help develop and implement student behavior plans and support systems.

Program Coordination and Compliance

• Maintain accurate counseling records and documentation in compliance with school policies and confidentiality requirements.
• Assist with state and school-required student support documentation and reporting.
• Coordinate prevention and awareness programs related to bullying, mental health, substance abuse prevention, and student safety.
• Participate in professional development and maintain knowledge of best practices in school counseling.

School and Community Engagement

• Support school-wide initiatives that promote student success and school culture.
• Participate in school events, parent engagement activities, and student recognition programs.
• Serve as an advocate for students and promote equitable access to educational opportunities.

Additional Duties

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or school administration consistent with the role of a school counselor.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
