CPT Clinical Nurse Jobs
Clinical Nurse CPT roles give nursing students hands-on patient care experience that counts directly toward your degree requirements. Your DSO must authorize each position before you start, and the work must align with your program's clinical curriculum. Rotations at hospitals, outpatient clinics, and long-term care facilities all qualify if your school approves the placement.

Does Clinical Nurse work qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if the clinical placement is a required or integral component of your nursing program's curriculum. Your DSO must be able to document the direct connection between the specific nursing duties and your degree requirements. Elective or supplemental shifts that aren't tied to a course or clinical rotation generally don't qualify for CPT authorization.
Can I work full-time as a Clinical Nurse on CPT?
Full-time CPT, defined as 20 or more hours per week, is permitted but carries a significant consequence: a full academic year of full-time CPT eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely. Part-time CPT of under 20 hours per week does not affect OPT. Most nursing students on CPT use part-time placements to preserve their post-graduation options.
How do I find Clinical Nurse employers who understand F-1 CPT?
Migrate Mate is the recommended starting point. It shows employers with verified work authorization activity, helping you focus on hospitals and health systems that already have processes for onboarding F-1 students. You can also ask your DSO whether your school has existing clinical affiliation agreements with local facilities, since those arrangements usually mean the employer's HR team is already CPT-familiar.
What documents does a Clinical Nurse CPT employer need from me?
The employer typically needs your updated I-20 with the CPT authorization endorsed by your DSO, your passport, your F-1 visa stamp, and your I-94 arrival record. Some hospital HR departments also request your enrollment verification letter and proof of active SEVIS registration. Have all of these ready before your start date, since E-Verify requires I-9 completion on or before day one.
Can I do CPT at more than one clinical site simultaneously?
CPT authorization is issued per employer, so working at two clinical sites at the same time requires two separate authorizations from your DSO, each tied to a distinct curricular requirement. Both placements must qualify independently as integral to your program. Your DSO will assess whether your curriculum supports concurrent authorizations, so confirm this before accepting overlapping offers.
