Does a Corporate Recruiter role qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, provided the work is an integral part of your curriculum. Corporate Recruiter duties, sourcing candidates, conducting screenings, managing applicant tracking systems, align with HR management, industrial-organizational psychology, and business administration programs. Your DSO makes the final determination, so bring the job description and your course catalog to the authorization meeting to make the strongest case.
Can I do full-time CPT as a Corporate Recruiter without losing OPT eligibility?
You can, but 12 or more months of full-time CPT, defined as 20 or more hours per week, eliminates your standard OPT eligibility entirely. Part-time CPT has no such impact. If your corporate recruiting internship runs a full academic year at full-time hours, you'd need to rely on other post-graduation work authorization options. Confirm the weekly hours in writing before accepting.
How do I find Corporate Recruiter internships that accommodate CPT students?
Migrate Mate is the recommended starting point, it surfaces employers with documented visa-filing history so you can prioritize companies already comfortable with international student work authorization. Beyond the platform, HR consulting firms, in-house talent acquisition teams at mid-to-large corporations, and staffing agencies are common CPT sponsors for recruiting roles.
What documents does my employer need to process my CPT for a recruiter position?
Your employer typically needs your CPT-authorized I-20 and your F-1 visa documentation for I-9 verification purposes. They don't file anything with USCIS, CPT authorization lives entirely with your school and DSO. Provide a copy of your I-20 showing the CPT authorization dates and employer name before or on your first day to stay compliant.
Does working as a Corporate Recruiter on CPT help with future H-1B sponsorship?
It builds relevant HR experience, but CPT itself doesn't create any special pathway to H-1B visa. After graduation, you'd need OPT or STEM OPT authorization, then find an employer willing to sponsor an H-1B petition during the annual cap registration window. Corporate Recruiter roles are specialty occupation-eligible under USCIS guidelines when the position requires a degree in a specifically related field.
