This is a remote opportunity open to current college students enrolling in an internship course for college credit in NYC.
Position Title: Public Relations Intern, NYC Office Hybrid Internship
Internship Term: Spring 2027
Compensation: College credit [MUST be enrolled in college course]
Desired Fields of Study: Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or related fields
Hours Desired: 15-20/week (We are looking for the NYC intern to come to office 2 days per week)
A Day In The Life
As a Public Relations Intern at Power Digital's NYC office, you'll assist in sample coordination, beauty closet organization, client status updates, media tracking, and coverage reporting. This hybrid internship requires previous PR or influencer relations experience, strong attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills. You'll work two days per week in the office, contributing to media and influencer lists, and social media monitoring for clients.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate sample sends out of the NYC office
- Organize the beauty closet for product send outs/mailers
- Create labels for various product sendouts for clients
- Keep client status grids up to date
- Media tracking and clipping, as well as updating client coverage books
- Monitor press coverage for different clients as well as flagging competitor coverage
- Assist with coverage PA’s/SMA’s and monthly reports
- Update and maintain media and influencer lists for clients
- Flag any media coverage on social media for clients
Role Requirements
- Previous internship and/or professional experience (PR and/or Influencer specific experience is a plus!)
- Understanding of media relations and the PR industry
- Extreme attention to detail
- Inherently organized and able to juggle multiple projects flawlessly
- Proactive and team-oriented
- Positive, can-do attitude
- An eagerness to learn and develop overall communications skills
- Familiarity with PR processes
- Exceptional communication skills
- Sound understanding of AP Style and GSP in writing
- Strong writing skills

Can I do CPT for a DevRel role at a startup without a formal HR department?
Yes, but you're responsible for getting a written offer letter with your start date, end date, employer name, and a duties description before your DSO can authorize CPT. Startups often skip formal offer letter templates, so ask directly for a letter on company letterhead. Your DSO can't update your I-20 without those specifics, regardless of company size.
How do I find Developer Relations Engineer jobs that are open to CPT students?
Search Migrate Mate, which filters for employers with verified work-authorization hiring history in technical roles. Many DevRel postings don't explicitly mention CPT, so focus on roles at companies running active developer programs or open-source initiatives, those teams are most familiar with authorizing international students and least likely to withdraw an offer over CPT paperwork.
Does a DevRel CPT role count toward STEM OPT eligibility later?
CPT authorization itself doesn't affect STEM OPT eligibility, what matters is your STEM-designated degree program and whether your OPT employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Full-time CPT totaling 12 or more cumulative months does eliminate standard OPT eligibility, but it doesn't affect the STEM extension separately. Confirm your cumulative CPT hours with your DSO before accepting a full-time DevRel position.
What happens if my CPT authorization lists the wrong job title or employer name?
Your I-20 must match your actual employer and role exactly. If you start work with a mismatched I-20, your CPT authorization is invalid, which puts your F-1 status at risk. Contact your DSO immediately if anything changes after authorization, including a legal entity name difference between the team you interviewed with and the employer of record on your paycheck.
