Does a Director of Clinical Education role qualify for CPT?
Yes, if your degree program includes clinical education, health systems leadership, or curriculum development as a core component and your DSO documents the connection. The role must be an integral part of your academic program, not simply related to your field. Programs in health administration, nursing education, and public health regularly authorize CPT for this title, but you'll need a formal curriculum justification letter, not just an offer letter.
Can I do CPT in a Director of Clinical Education role part-time while finishing coursework?
Yes, CPT can be authorized part-time, which is 20 hours per week or fewer, allowing you to remain enrolled in coursework simultaneously. Part-time CPT does not count against your OPT eligibility, unlike full-time CPT. If the employer requires a full-time schedule, your DSO can authorize full-time CPT, but note that 12 or more months of full-time CPT eliminates OPT eligibility entirely.
What documents does an F-1 student need before starting a Director of Clinical Education CPT position?
You need a CPT-authorized I-20 with your employer's name, the role title, and exact start and end dates listed. The authorization must come before your first day of work. Most employers also require a copy of your current visa stamp, passport, and the CPT endorsement page. Your employer completes the I-9 using these documents, so a missing or incorrect I-20 blocks your start date regardless of any verbal offer agreement.
How do I find Director of Clinical Education employers open to CPT candidates?
Migrate Mate lets you filter Director of Clinical Education roles by employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for clinical education positions, which is a reliable signal that the organization has hired international students before. Health systems with academic medical centers, nursing schools with clinical partnerships, and community colleges with allied health programs are the employer categories most likely to have existing CPT onboarding processes already in place.
Does CPT in a Director of Clinical Education role count toward H-1B specialty occupation eligibility?
CPT work experience in a director-level clinical education role strengthens an H-1B visa petition because it demonstrates direct application of your degree in a specialty occupation. USCIS evaluates whether a role requires a specific bachelor's degree or higher, and Director of Clinical Education typically qualifies given its requirement for specialized graduate-level knowledge in health sciences or education. Document your CPT duties and outcomes carefully, since this record becomes supporting evidence in a future H-1B visa filing.
