Get Access To All JobsDirector Of Professional Services CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Director of Professional Services role qualify for CPT?
Yes, if the role is directly tied to your program's curriculum. Graduate students in business administration, management information systems, or organizational leadership programs can typically demonstrate that a Director of Professional Services placement integrates service operations, client management, or consulting competencies from their coursework. Your DSO makes the final determination based on that academic connection.
Can I do full-time CPT as a Director of Professional Services?
Full-time CPT is allowed but carries a significant trade-off: 12 or more months of full-time CPT eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely. For a Director-level role, which may be harder to convert to part-time, weigh that risk carefully with your DSO before accepting a full-time placement spanning more than one academic term.
How do I find Director of Professional Services jobs that accept CPT students?
Migrate Mate lists Director of Professional Services roles from employers with CPT-compatible and visa-sponsorship histories, so you're not cold-applying to companies unfamiliar with F-1 work authorization. Filter by role and check employer profiles to identify organizations that have previously hired students on work authorization before reaching out.
What documents does my employer need to support my CPT authorization?
Your employer needs to provide a formal offer letter that specifies job title, duties, start and end dates, and work location. For a Director of Professional Services role, the duties section should explicitly reference client engagement, service delivery oversight, or team leadership functions so your DSO can confirm the academic connection to your enrolled program.
Does CPT experience as a Director of Professional Services help with future H-1B sponsorship?
CPT itself doesn't create any H-1B visa advantage, but the experience does. Director of Professional Services roles build the leadership and client-operations track record that strengthens H-1B specialty occupation petitions. If the employer wants to sponsor you after graduation, they'll file a Labor Condition Application with DOL and submit the I-129 petition to USCIS, typically before your OPT expires.
