CPT Educator Jobs
Educator CPT roles let F-1 students apply classroom theory directly in K-12 schools, tutoring centers, community colleges, and educational nonprofits. Your DSO must confirm the placement is integral to your enrolled program, so lining up a curriculum-aligned offer before the semester starts is what makes or breaks authorization.

Get Access To All JobsEducator CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a part-time tutoring or instructional aide role qualify for CPT authorization?
Part-time CPT is allowed and often easier for schools to offer than full-time placements. Your DSO can authorize part-time CPT for as few as one day per week, but the role still must be an integral part of your curriculum. Tutoring or instructional aide work qualifies when your program includes a practicum, supervised teaching, or fieldwork requirement that the placement directly fulfills.
Can I do CPT at a nonprofit tutoring center or community organization instead of a traditional school?
Yes. CPT authorization isn't limited to accredited schools or districts. Nonprofits, community learning centers, and educational organizations all qualify as long as your DSO confirms the work is curriculum-integral and issues an updated I-20. The employer type matters less than the documented connection between the role's duties and your enrolled coursework.
How do I find educator employers who are familiar with F-1 CPT work authorization?
Migrate Mate surfaces employers with verified work-authorization hiring history, which cuts out the back-and-forth of educating HR about CPT from scratch. Prioritizing employers who've previously hired F-1 students means your offer letter and start date are less likely to get delayed by unfamiliarity with the I-20 update process.
Does using full-time CPT affect my OPT eligibility after graduation?
Full-time CPT used for 12 months or more eliminates your post-completion OPT eligibility entirely, per USCIS regulations. Part-time CPT, regardless of total duration, does not affect OPT. If you're planning to pursue H-1B visa sponsorship after graduation, preserving your OPT window is often worth structuring your educator placement as part-time CPT rather than full-time.
What paperwork does an educator employer need from me to process CPT authorization?
The employer doesn't file anything with USCIS for CPT. The authorization is entirely between you and your DSO. What the employer provides is a written offer letter with role title, duties, dates, hours, and worksite address. You bring that to your DSO, who updates your I-20. Your updated I-20 plus your valid F-1 visa is what authorizes you to work.
