St. Mary's College of Maryland is accepting applications for the tenure track position of Assistant Professor and Internship Coordinator in its newly approved Masters of Arts in Counseling and Clinical Psychology (MACCP) program, beginning August 2027. The MACCP program is the second Masters program at SMCM (following the successful Master of Teaching program). The salary range for this position is $75,000 to $79,000 based on level of experience; startup costs are negotiable; benefits information is available online.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The standard teaching load is 12 credits (usually, the equivalent of 3 courses) per semester. The Internship Coordinator will be in charge of preparing for internship placements (which is built into the teaching load). Teaching responsibilities will include courses in the Master of Arts in Counseling and Clinical Psychology program (e.g., Psychopathology and Diagnosis, Multicultural Counseling, Lifespan Development, Group Counseling, Psychological Testing, Family Systems in Practice), as well as the possibility of undergraduate courses in your area of specialization to provide cross-program collaboration with the Psychology major.
At SMCM, we seek faculty whose pedagogical practice involves culturally responsive teaching practices that promote belonging and inclusion. New faculty are paired with mentors to support your growth as a teacher-scholar. In addition, we offer start-up funding to support your research, especially encouraging projects that relate to the training of psychotherapy practitioners. Over time, professors take on roles in services to the program and College to support the College's mission; first-year faculty are exempt from college-wide committee work.

Does adjunct teaching automatically qualify as CPT for any F-1 student?
No. CPT is only valid when the work is an integral part of your established curriculum, not just related to your field of study. Your program must require or offer academic credit for the teaching experience, and your DSO must confirm that the specific adjunct role satisfies that curricular component before you begin working.
Can I work as an adjunct instructor at a different school than the one that authorized my CPT?
Yes, the employer and the authorizing institution can be different. Your CPT is issued by your enrolled school's DSO and tied to your degree program, not to where you teach. The hiring institution just needs to be a legitimate employer that can verify your work authorization, ideally through E-Verify enrollment.
How do I find adjunct instructor positions that are open to F-1 CPT students?
Many adjunct postings don't specify visa sponsorship requirements, so you'll need to screen employers yourself. Since most adjunct roles are part-time contracts, they typically fall under part-time CPT, but verify your authorized hours with your DSO to avoid an accidental full-time CPT designation.
What documents should I give the hiring department before my first class?
Provide your updated I-20 showing the CPT authorization with the specific employer name and dates, along with your EAD if your school issues one for CPT. Some institutions also require a copy of your visa stamp and I-94 record. The department's HR office may need these to complete Form I-9 before your first paycheck is processed.
