CPT Field Auditor Jobs
Field Auditor roles in compliance, finance, and operations qualify for CPT when your program requires applied audit experience as part of your degree plan. Your DSO must confirm the position aligns with your curriculum before you start. Roles involving internal controls review, financial statement testing, or regulatory compliance fieldwork typically meet that standard.

Job Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated summer intern to join our team in advancing ocean remote sensing technologies. This internship offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of active remote sensing, mathematical modeling, and oceanography. The successful candidate will focus on simulating and analyzing lidar ocean measurements to better understand underwater optical properties, while also providing critical support for upcoming multi-platform field campaigns. This work will directly contribute to our understanding of marine ecosystems and help bridge the gap between in-situ active sensors and global satellite observations, particularly in support of the Plankton, Aerosol, Cloud, ocean Ecosystem (PACE) mission.
This part-time internship lasts up to one year and includes about 10 hours of work per week, offering steady involvement in ongoing projects and meaningful skill development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Simulation Development: Utilize Monte Carlo programming techniques to develop and refine lidar simulations, modeling the complex propagation of light in the ocean under various environmental and physical conditions.
- Lidar Data Analysis: Analyze active lidar ocean measurements, with a specific focus on extracting and interpreting backscatter, attenuation, and depolarization data.
- Field Campaign Support: Actively participate in the planning, logistical preparation, and execution of upcoming field campaigns to gather validation data. Campaigns will involve coordinated aircraft and ship-based deployments, with the primary focus on shipboard operations.
Desired Qualifications & Skills:
- Quantitative & Coding Proficiency: Strong mathematical foundation and excellent programming skills, with a specific interest or background in developing Monte Carlo simulations.
- Technical Knowledge: A working knowledge of (or strong academic background related to) using active lidar systems for ocean remote sensing applications.
- Satellite Mission Familiarity: An understanding of the measurements and capabilities of satellite remote sensors, with particular emphasis on the NASA PACE mission and its ocean color/aerosol objectives.
- Academic Background: Pursuing a degree in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Oceanography, Atmospheric Science, or a related STEM field.

Get Access To All JobsField Auditor CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Field Auditor position qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if the role is an integral part of your degree program and your DSO approves it. Field Auditor positions that involve financial statement testing, internal controls review, or regulatory compliance fieldwork align well with accounting, finance, and business administration curricula. Your DSO evaluates fit based on your specific program requirements, not just the job title, so bring documentation of the duties listed in your offer letter.
Can I do CPT for a Field Auditor role that requires travel?
CPT authorization covers the employer and work type, not a fixed location, so travel-heavy audit roles are generally permissible as long as your DSO approves the position. If you'll work across multiple client sites, confirm your I-20 CPT authorization lists the employer's primary address. Notify your DSO if your work location changes significantly, since some schools require an amended authorization for long-term assignments outside your metro area.
How do I find employers who will hire F-1 students for Field Auditor roles on CPT?
Migrate Mate lets you browse Field Auditor openings filtered by employers with documented sponsorship and LCA filing history, which signals willingness to work with international candidates. Public accounting firms and federal contractors are particularly active in hiring for audit roles and tend to have established processes for onboarding students on CPT. Targeting E-Verify-enrolled employers also simplifies your work authorization verification at onboarding.
Does full-time CPT for a Field Auditor role affect my OPT eligibility?
Full-time CPT used for 12 months or more eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely under SEVP regulations. Part-time CPT, defined as 20 hours or fewer per week, does not affect OPT regardless of duration. If your Field Auditor role is full-time, factor this into your long-term planning, especially if you intend to use OPT or the STEM OPT extension for post-graduation employment or H-1B gap coverage.
What documents do I need from my employer to get CPT authorized for a Field Auditor job?
Most DSO offices require a signed offer letter or internship agreement that specifies your job title, start and end dates, hours per week, work location, and supervisor name. For Field Auditor roles, include a description of your core duties so your DSO can confirm alignment with your coursework. Some schools also require a training plan or a letter from your academic advisor confirming the position satisfies a curricular requirement.
