CPT Internal Audit Jobs
Internal Audit CPT roles put you inside a company's risk, compliance, and controls framework, exactly the work your accounting, finance, or business program requires you to complete. Your DSO must authorize each position as integral to your curriculum, so job titles, duties, and your degree plan all need to align before you accept an offer.

Does an internal audit internship qualify for CPT?
Yes, if your school's DSO can document that the role is an integral part of your degree program. Internal audit work aligns directly with accounting, finance, and business administration curricula. You'll need to show the job duties connect to your coursework, and the position must be listed in your I-20 before you start.
Can I do CPT in internal audit at a company that doesn't sponsor visas?
CPT doesn't require the employer to file any petition with USCIS, so the employer doesn't need to be an active visa sponsor to hire you. Your school, not the company, authorizes your CPT. The employer only needs to provide a valid offer letter and comply with standard employment verification, including Form I-9.
How do I find internal audit employers who regularly hire F-1 students?
Migrate Mate filters internal audit openings by employers with a history of supporting F-1 work authorization, which removes the guesswork of cold outreach. You can also check DOL's Labor Condition Application disclosure data to see which companies have filed for audit and finance roles under work visa categories in recent fiscal years.
What happens if my internal audit CPT role extends past my program end date?
CPT authorization is tied to your active F-1 student status. If the role extends past your program end date, your CPT authorization ends with it. You'd need a separate work authorization, such as OPT, to continue legally. Plan your end date carefully and discuss any extension with your DSO at least 90 days before your program completion.
Will doing CPT in internal audit affect my chances of getting an H-1B later?
CPT itself doesn't affect H-1B visa eligibility, but how you use it matters. If you use 12 or more months of full-time CPT, you lose OPT eligibility, which eliminates the cap-gap protection that bridges your F-1 status to H-1B. Keeping CPT part-time or under the 12-month threshold preserves your OPT and your path to H-1B sponsorship.
