Does a Graphic Designer internship qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if the work is an integral part of your curriculum and your school's DSO approves it. A Graphic Designer internship at an agency, in-house creative team, or media company typically qualifies when it connects to coursework in visual communication, branding, or digital design. Your offer letter should describe the specific design tasks so your DSO can verify the curriculum connection.
Can I do CPT as a Graphic Designer at a remote-only company?
Remote CPT is possible, but your DSO determines whether it qualifies based on your school's policy and how well the remote role integrates with your coursework. Some schools require an on-site component; others accept fully remote positions with sufficient supervision and documented learning outcomes. Confirm your school's remote CPT rules before accepting a remote Graphic Designer offer.
How do I find Graphic Designer employers experienced with F-1 CPT?
Migrate Mate lists Graphic Designer roles from employers with work authorization experience, which reduces the back-and-forth of explaining CPT to hiring managers unfamiliar with F-1 documentation. Filtering by role and location helps you identify companies whose HR teams already understand I-20 authorization requirements and EAD documentation for CPT.
Does full-time CPT as a Graphic Designer affect my OPT eligibility?
Yes. Twelve months or more of full-time CPT eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely. Part-time CPT, regardless of how many semesters you use it, doesn't affect OPT. If you plan to pursue OPT or STEM OPT after graduation, track your full-time CPT months carefully and discuss the tradeoff with your DSO before accepting a full-time Graphic Designer position.
What documents does a Graphic Designer CPT employer need from me?
Your employer needs your CPT-authorized I-20 showing the specific employer name and dates, your EAD if your school issues one for CPT, and your passport and visa for I-9 verification. The employer name on your I-20 must match the hiring entity exactly. A discrepancy between the I-20 and the legal employer name on your offer letter can invalidate your CPT authorization.
