iOS Software Engineer roles qualify for CPT when your program curriculum directly integrates mobile development work, think capstone projects, practicum courses, or co-op requirements tied to Swift, Xcode, or iOS frameworks. Your DSO must authorize each CPT employer and term before you start, and the work must map to a specific course.

Does an iOS Software Engineer role qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, provided the work is an integral part of your curriculum and tied to an enrolled course. iOS development roles involving Swift, Objective-C, or Apple SDK frameworks are routinely approved when your program has a practicum, co-op, or capstone requirement that maps directly to mobile software engineering. Your DSO makes the final call based on your specific program.
Can I do CPT at a startup that doesn't have a formal HR or immigration team?
CPT authorization comes from your school, not your employer. The employer doesn't file anything with USCIS. The startup needs to provide a legitimate offer letter describing your iOS role, start date, and hours. Your DSO issues the updated I-20 with the CPT authorization, so the employer's size or immigration experience doesn't affect your eligibility.
How do full-time versus part-time CPT affect my OPT eligibility after graduation?
Full-time CPT (20 or more hours per week) counts toward a 12-month limit. Reaching 12 months of full-time CPT eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely, including STEM OPT. Part-time CPT, at under 20 hours per week, does not count toward that limit regardless of duration. Tracking your accumulated CPT hours precisely is your responsibility, not your school's.
Where can I find iOS Software Engineer jobs where employers already understand CPT?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for F-1 students and filters iOS and mobile engineering roles by employers with documented visa sponsorship history. Instead of screening dozens of postings manually, you can see which companies have filed Labor Condition Applications for software engineering roles and are familiar with CPT and OPT authorization.
Does my iOS CPT role need to be at a company with an E-Verify account?
E-Verify enrollment is not required for CPT itself. CPT authorization is issued by your DSO and doesn't involve USCIS or E-Verify. However, if you plan to use STEM OPT after graduation, your employer at that point must be enrolled in E-Verify. Starting your career at an E-Verify-registered iOS employer now makes that future transition simpler.
