Who Are We?
We at Pine Rest believe in the power of healing and that everyone in our community has the right to expert care for mental health and substance use disorders. We are much more than just the third largest non-profit behavioral health system in the country, our 220-acre main campus, and our network of clinical sites across Michigan. We are a tight-knit community of healers who witness the impact of our life-changing work each day.
Each day, we are closing the gaps in access to care. We are innovating through leading-edge research, testing, programs, and treatment modalities that others replicate across the country. Our services include a state-of-the-art psychiatric urgent care center and a soon-to-be-built pediatric behavioral health center, outpatient, inpatient, partial hospitalization (day programs), assessment and testing, residential, addiction treatment and specialty services such as crisis response, employee assistance programs, forensic psychiatry and psychology, and neuromodulation. On-the-job educational programs for nurses, psychologists, advanced practice providers, psychiatrists, and chaplains are equipping the next generation of care providers.
We are passionate about serving and are honored to be a part of this incredible work.

Get Access To All JobsMental Health Worker CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Mental Health Worker role qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if your degree program in counseling, social work, clinical psychology, or a related field requires supervised practical experience as part of the curriculum. Your DSO will verify that the specific duties in your offer letter connect directly to your program's learning objectives. Roles involving direct client support, case management, or crisis intervention under licensed supervision typically meet this standard.
Can I work full-time as a Mental Health Worker on CPT?
Full-time CPT is defined as 20 or more hours per week and is permitted, but 12 months or more of full-time CPT eliminates your OPT eligibility. Many F-1 students in mental health programs opt for part-time CPT to preserve OPT for post-graduation employment. Discuss the trade-off with your DSO before accepting a full-time placement.
How do I find Mental Health Worker employers familiar with CPT?
Search Migrate Mate to identify behavioral health employers with documented experience sponsoring F-1 students. Community mental health centers, nonprofit behavioral health agencies, and hospital outpatient departments are common CPT placements in this field. Prioritize employers who already use E-Verify, as they're more likely to have an onboarding process that accommodates CPT documentation without delays.
What happens to my CPT authorization if the employer changes my role mid-placement?
CPT authorization is tied to the specific position your DSO approved. If your employer changes your title, primary duties, or supervision structure, you need a new CPT authorization from your DSO before the role change takes effect. Working in an unapproved capacity, even briefly, can jeopardize your F-1 status, so notify your DSO immediately when any material change occurs.
Does CPT in a Mental Health Worker role count toward state licensure hours?
It depends on your state's licensing board requirements for the credential you're pursuing. Some states count supervised direct-service hours earned during a degree program, which CPT placements can satisfy. Others require post-degree hours only. Check your state's licensing board rules and confirm with your employer that your supervision arrangement meets the board's documentation standards before you start accumulating hours.
