CPT Network Architect Jobs
Network Architect CPT roles sit at the intersection of advanced coursework and real infrastructure work. Your DSO must document that the position directly integrates with your degree, so target roles involving network design, enterprise topology planning, or security architecture. CPT authorization is per-employer, so each new position requires a fresh I-20 update.

Get Access To All JobsNetwork Architect CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Network Architect role qualify for CPT authorization?
It qualifies if your degree program covers networking, systems architecture, or a related technical field and your DSO can document the position as an integral curricular requirement. Roles involving network design, enterprise topology, or infrastructure planning align closely with computer science and information systems programs. A general IT support role with no design or architecture component is less likely to satisfy the integral requirement.
Can I do CPT part-time as a Network Architect while finishing coursework?
Yes. CPT can be authorized part-time, defined as fewer than 20 hours per week, which preserves your full-time student status. Part-time CPT does not count against your OPT eligibility regardless of how many semesters you use it. Many Network Architect internships are structured as part-time to accommodate senior-year coursework, particularly for students completing capstone or thesis projects.
How does full-time CPT affect my OPT eligibility?
Twelve months or more of full-time CPT eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely, including the STEM OPT extension. Part-time CPT has no impact on OPT eligibility. If you're planning to use OPT to transition to an H-1B visa, keep full-time CPT under 12 months. Your DSO tracks cumulative full-time CPT days, so request an updated tally before accepting any full-time offer.
What should I look for when evaluating a CPT employer for a Network Architect role?
Prioritize employers enrolled in E-Verify who have previously filed Labor Condition Applications for technical roles, as this indicates familiarity with DOL wage and compliance requirements. You can find employers with LCA filing history for network and architecture roles on Migrate Mate. Also confirm the employer will sign your CPT authorization documents promptly, since your I-20 must be updated before your start date.
Which SOC code applies to Network Architect roles for CPT and future visa purposes?
Network Architects typically fall under SOC code 15-1241, Network Architects, as classified by the Bureau of Labor Statistics and referenced in DOL prevailing wage determinations. Some roles involving both network and systems administration may be classified under 15-1244. The correct SOC code matters for your LCA filing if your employer later pursues H-1B sponsorship. Review the O*NET occupation profile for 15-1241 to confirm your job duties match the description before your DSO documents the CPT authorization.
