Palo Alto Networks CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Palo Alto Networks internship qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if the position is an integral part of your curriculum and your DSO approves it. Palo Alto Networks internships in security engineering, threat research, or cloud infrastructure typically connect to computer science or cybersecurity coursework. You'll need a job offer letter and enrollment in a qualifying course before your DSO can issue the CPT authorization on your I-20.
Can I do CPT at Palo Alto Networks while completing my thesis or capstone?
Yes. Many graduate programs allow CPT tied to a thesis or capstone project, provided the work directly relates to your research area. A cybersecurity or network engineering role at Palo Alto Networks can qualify if your faculty advisor confirms the connection. Your DSO will require documentation linking the specific job duties to your academic program before issuing CPT authorization.
What job titles at Palo Alto Networks are most commonly approved for CPT?
Roles in security engineering, software development, data science, threat intelligence, and cloud infrastructure are the most common CPT approvals at technology companies. These positions require a bachelor's or master's degree in a directly related field, which satisfies the specialty occupation standard. Check the O*NET profile for your specific title to confirm the degree requirement aligns with your enrolled program.
How do I find Palo Alto Networks CPT roles with active H-1B filing history?
Use Migrate Mate to filter Palo Alto Networks job listings by LCA filing history. This shows you which roles have been actively sponsored in the past, which is a strong indicator that the employer's HR and legal teams are experienced with work authorization. Prioritizing roles with existing filing activity reduces friction during your transition from CPT to OPT or H-1B visa.
Does full-time CPT at Palo Alto Networks affect my OPT eligibility?
Full-time CPT lasting 12 months or more eliminates your post-completion OPT eligibility entirely. Part-time CPT, regardless of duration, does not affect OPT. If your Palo Alto Networks role is full-time, track your cumulative full-time CPT across all employers carefully. Your DSO will have records, but maintaining your own log prevents surprises when you apply for OPT before graduation.
