Project Engineering Intern positions include Engineering, Field Engineering (mechanical or civil), Cost Engineering, Safety Engineering, Estimating, Finance/Accounting, and Equipment/Maintenance. The Project Engineer Intern assists and supports Project Manager and Superintendent on assigned projects. The position works under direct supervision with mentorship, performs routine daily activities, and gathers and distributes information. During an internship with Skanska, you may have the opportunity to gain experience with coordinating project activities with direct supervision from the Project and/or Operations Manager, performing accounting activities with assistance, performing estimating functions as requested with assistance, and other duties as assigned.
PROJECT ENGINEERING INTERN REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of basic phases of construction projects
- Knowledge of mathematics functions (geometry, basic algebra)
- Computer skills (MS Office, HCSS, CGC, etc)
- Ability to perform all work in a timely, professional, and efficient manner while effectively communicating and interacting with customers, clients, subcontractors, and other third parties
- Ability to present information in a clear and understandable manner in both written and verbal form
- Working towards a bachelor's in Construction Management, Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field or equivalent through experience
SALARY RANGE - HOURLY PAY RANGES: $20/hr to $23/hr

It qualifies if the job duties connect directly to your degree program and your DSO confirms the role is an integral part of your curriculum. Project Engineer positions in engineering, construction, or technical program management typically satisfy this when your coursework includes project lifecycle, systems design, or engineering fundamentals. Your DSO makes the final determination based on your specific program requirements.
Can I do CPT at a construction site or a non-office location?
Yes. CPT authorization follows the job, not the physical location. If the Project Engineer role places you on a job site, in a manufacturing facility, or across multiple locations, your I-20 CPT authorization still covers it. Confirm the primary worksite address with your employer before your DSO finalizes the authorization, since the I-20 typically lists a specific employer name and location.

Does my Project Engineer CPT role need to be paid?
Unpaid CPT is permitted under F-1 regulations, but most Project Engineer positions are paid because they involve substantive engineering responsibilities under DOL wage requirements. If your employer files an LCA, the role is paid and subject to prevailing wage rules. Confirm with your DSO whether your school's CPT policy requires paid placement for your specific program.
