ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
BUISINESS UNIT
The Land and Right of Way Department, a part of Kinder Morgan’s Operational Support Group (OSG), provides vital services to keep our pipeline and infrastructure projects running smoothly. Within this group, the Land and Right of Way Finance Team manages the financial aspects of acquiring and maintaining land rights, easements, and agreements needed to build and operate our assets. The team focuses on accurate cost tracking, reporting, compliance, and continuous process improvement to support safe and reliable operations across Kinder Morgan’s network.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
As an OSG BOLT Intern, you will work side-by-side with experienced team and network with other interns, building connections, and learning vital company practices, procedures, and on-the-job training. Activities will include supporting the Land and Right of Way Department with tasks related to the financial aspects of acquiring and maintaining land rights, easements, and agreements needed to build and operate our assets. At the end of the BOLT internship, the intern will be required to present a summary of their summer to the management of the department. This will be an opportunity for the intern to demonstrate what they have learned throughout their internship and provide insight on their experience to senior business leaders and key stakeholders.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum GPA: 3.0
- Demonstrated experience leading teams of people, either during school, work, or personal life - candidate must describe in detail during the interview
- Self-motivated and driven, with demonstrated interpersonal skills
- Ability to speak publicly in front of groups
- Ability to function effectively in both a team and individual environment
- Attention to detail and strong computer skills are essential
- Driven to discover and determined to deliver
- Open to travel in the United States
- Houston Headquarters Work Location

Does a Registered Land Surveyor job qualify for CPT authorization?
It depends on your degree program. Can I work in the field on surveys during CPT, or am I limited to office tasks?
CPT covers both field and office duties as long as the employer structures your role as supervised training under a licensed Professional Land Surveyor. Field traverses, boundary research, and GPS data collection all count. What matters is that the duties are documented in your offer letter and connect to coursework your DSO can identify in your curriculum.
How do I find land surveying firms that have experience hiring F-1 students on CPT?

Does working as a land surveyor on CPT affect my OPT eligibility after graduation?
Part-time CPT, defined as fewer than 20 hours per week, doesn't reduce your OPT eligibility regardless of how many semesters you use it. Full-time CPT, 20 or more hours per week, eliminates OPT eligibility entirely once you accumulate 12 or more months of it. Track your cumulative full-time CPT hours carefully across all employers and semesters.
What wage should I expect as an F-1 student on CPT in a land surveying role, and does it affect future sponsorship?
Your CPT wage doesn't need to meet any DOL prevailing-wage threshold, since CPT isn't an H-1B visa petition. However, if the employer later sponsors you for H-1B or permanent residence, they'll need to meet the prevailing wage for your occupation and location at that point.
