CPT Quality Technician Jobs
Quality Technician jobs fit CPT because the hands-on inspection, measurement, and process-control work directly maps to coursework in engineering technology, manufacturing systems, or industrial quality programs. Your DSO must authorize each CPT position individually, and the role description should reference your specific degree program to satisfy that integral-part requirement.

About Redwood Materials
Redwood is localizing a global battery supply chain that seamlessly integrates recovery, reuse, and recycling — keeping critical minerals in circulation and driving the energy transition. Founded in 2017, we're delivering low-cost and large-scale energy storage and producing battery materials in the U.S. for the first time, all from batteries we already have.
Quality Technician, Energy Storage
Redwood is looking for a highly motivated Quality Technician with broad experience across incoming quality, process quality, and customer-facing quality activities. The Quality Technician will be responsible for identifying quality issues across the manufacturing environment, supporting investigations and root cause analysis, collecting relevant process and product data, and managing non-conforming material. This person will work closely with production and engineering teams to maintain rapid response and drive continuous improvements to the production process. The ideal candidate brings a self-starting mindset with a strong drive to solve complex problems, along with a get-it-done attitude, willing to jump in, take end-to-end ownership, and do what is needed to support the team.
Hours: Full-time, Monday–Friday (initial schedule). This role will transition to a 12-hour shift schedule: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM, Sunday–Tuesday (every other Wednesday) or 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM, Thursday–Saturday (every other Wednesday). Flexibility to support different shifts as the operation scales is required.
Responsibilities will Include:
- Conduct inspections, audits, and testing to evaluate product and process performance
- Drive root cause investigations for product, in-process, and incoming quality issues
- Collect and analyze product and process data with engineering teams to ensure specifications are well-defined and met
- Support the control and disposition of non-conforming material
- Assist with Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) and Control Plan activities to identify and mitigate manufacturing risks before they become quality issues
- Analyze production data using quality tools to identify potential non-conforming or at-risk material
- Provide sampling support for in-process and finished product as required
- Support management of change initiatives across the organization
- Collaborate with engineering teams to validate new product designs, equipment, and processes
- Work with cross-functional teams to meet safety, quality, and production goals
- Perform rework on non-conforming material to recover final yield
Desired Qualifications:
- Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent hands-on experience in mechanical, electrical, mechatronics, or related fields
- 2+ years of experience in manufacturing environments (technician, engineering tech, or similar role)
- Strong safety discipline (LOTO, PPE, safe work practices)
- Experience in transitioning operations from development to high-volume manufacturing
- Experience with the development and use of quality tools as well as other quality system elements
- Previous exposure to quality systems and international standards
- Adept with process data acquisition and quality analysis tools
- Strong communication and teamwork skills; able to work effectively with engineers and stakeholders across levels
- A passion for sustainability and making the world a better place!
Physical Requirements:
- Standing, walking, bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and performing repetitive motions
Working Conditions:
- Indoor production environment with typical exposure to noise, machinery, and industrial conditions
The position is full-time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.

Does a Quality Technician role qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if the role is an integral part of your curriculum. Quality Technician duties, such as dimensional inspection, calibration, and statistical process control, align closely with engineering technology, industrial technology, and manufacturing engineering programs. Your DSO will require a job offer letter and may ask you to document which specific courses the work experience satisfies before adding CPT to your I-20.
Can I do CPT at a manufacturing company that has never hired an F-1 student?
You can, but you'll need to walk the employer through the process. The employer's main obligation is completing Form I-9 correctly using your CPT-endorsed I-20 as a List A document. They don't file anything with USCIS. Confirm that HR understands CPT work authorization before your start date so there are no I-9 compliance issues on day one.
How do I find Quality Technician employers who are already set up for F-1 students?
Search Quality Technician openings on Migrate Mate, which filters for employers with documented work-authorization filing history. Employers who have previously hired F-1 students on OPT or sponsored H-1B visas already have I-9 and onboarding processes in place, which makes the CPT paperwork conversation much smoother than starting cold with an employer who has never done it.
What happens to my OPT if I do full-time CPT as a Quality Technician co-op?
Every month of full-time CPT, defined as more than 20 hours per week, counts against your 12-month OPT limit. A six-month full-time co-op leaves you with six months of post-completion OPT. Part-time CPT, at 20 hours or fewer per week, does not affect OPT eligibility at all. Confirm the weekly hours in your offer letter with your DSO before accepting.
Can a Quality Technician CPT role lead to H-1B sponsorship after graduation?
CPT itself doesn't obligate an employer to sponsor you later, but it can create that path. Quality Technician roles are typically classified as technical occupations under SOC codes tied to manufacturing or quality engineering, which can support an H-1B petition if the position requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Employers in aerospace, automotive, and medical device manufacturing have consistent H-1B filing histories in these occupation categories.
