Get Access To All JobsWarehouse Clerk CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Warehouse Clerk role qualify for CPT authorization?
It depends on your degree program. If you're studying supply chain management, logistics, operations management, or industrial engineering, a Warehouse Clerk role typically qualifies because receiving, inventory control, and shipping coordination map directly to core curriculum topics. Your DSO makes the final call, and the stronger the overlap between the job description and your course catalog, the faster the authorization.
Can I work full-time as a Warehouse Clerk on CPT?
Yes, but full-time CPT, defined as 20 hours or more per week, counts against your OPT eligibility. Twelve months of full-time CPT eliminates your OPT entirely, which affects your post-graduation work authorization and your H-1B visa timeline. Part-time CPT, under 20 hours per week, doesn't affect OPT regardless of how many semesters you use it.
What documents do I need to start a Warehouse Clerk job on CPT?
You need an updated I-20 with CPT authorization on page two, listing the specific employer, start date, end date, and whether it's part-time or full-time. You'll also use your I-20 and F-1 visa to complete the I-9 on day one. Warehouse employers enrolled in E-Verify will run your documents through the system, so make sure your I-20 dates match your actual start date exactly.
How do I find Warehouse Clerk employers that hire F-1 CPT students?
Migrate Mate lists warehouse and logistics employers with documented F-1 hiring history, which tells you upfront whether a company has navigated CPT and OPT work authorization before. Targeting employers already familiar with the I-9 and E-Verify process for international students saves time and reduces the risk of offers falling through over authorization confusion.
Does CPT as a Warehouse Clerk count toward H-1B eligibility later?
CPT employment itself doesn't disqualify you from H-1B, but the role needs to be in a specialty occupation at the H-1B stage. Warehouse Clerk is typically classified under O*NET as requiring less than a bachelor's degree, which means transitioning to H-1B in the same role is difficult. Students in logistics or operations programs often use Warehouse Clerk CPT as a stepping stone while targeting analyst or coordinator roles for OPT and H-1B sponsorship.
